    Hi,

Apparently I need to change the water pump in my apartment on the top floor (4th floor). It's a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom apartment. I was told I needed a two or three bar negative head water pump.
I'm not clued up on water pumps so could someone recommend me a reliable one (make and model would be appreciated). I'm assuming I only need a single Impeller pump.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Please excuse the questioneering but:

What kind of pump is there at the moment?

Who told you it needed to be changed (often, they can be fixed if they are a good quality pump).

What makes you think you need a single impeller pump? (I assume you or someone in the household prefers their showers warm).

Can you post a link of your existing pump?

It's a techflow pump but I couldn't find the model no.

The pump was looked at by a plumber and he told me it needed replacing and I needed a 1.5-2 bar negative head pump. He quoted 700e for a new pump plus 150e for installation.

I realised I needed a twin impeller pump.

What's the exact make and model pump that he quoted you for?

I can recommend you one that has "soft start" and "soft stop" with Variable Frequency Drive that is future proof for your setup.
Cost, supplied by a local Dublin based supplier around €1,000 inc.

What does the OP need to future proof against?

The plumber didn't give me a make or model no. of a the pump he could get. He just mentioned that I should be looking for a pump around that price range and not ones that are cheaper.

Then what you need is a Stuart Turner, 2 bar, negative head, brass pump.
It comes with a five year warranty as long as it is installed in accordance with the manufacturers instructions.

Anyone knows what type of pump I'm talking about !?
    What is soft-start and soft-stop, VFD !?

Well, i cant show you pictures of my older 2 pumps installed by various companies and friends but I may be able to show you a photo of a system designed by me.

Previous pumps used to bang the pipes and squeak the taps like a steam train.
Tried regulators and pressure valves with no joy as the installation of the piping done years ago by "Paddy the cowboy one house per week" wasn't supporting that type of pump / pressure.

With the soft start and soft stop combined with variable speed, took all of it away. This is my experience, shared at no cost or benefit to me. When I told the guys what pump I have and wanted installed been told is crazy, as they never install that type, i have to use the same type that they are familiar with and works for them ... Your choice ... enjoy the hammers.

I'm not having a go here but aren't you suggesting a pump set up to rectify all problem that's not there?
