2012 V70 vs 2014 Mazda 6

    Hello all,
As the title suggests, I am toying with the idea of an upgrade.
I will be importing. I have the option of a V70 or a Mazda 6 at very decent money. They are both high milers though. The V70 has 145k miles whilst the Mazda 6 has 130k miles. Both are 1 owner and fully serviced with history.
Just wondering are there any pitfalls to these cars with such high mileage and any other things to look out for?
    Thanks in advance.

    Quick bump.!
    Any thoughts at all appreciated.
Having done some research I am inclined to run a mile from any class of a Mazda 6 diesel. Any counter argument to that position!
I am still very interested in the V70, just a little unsure with 145k miles.

What engine is in the V70? If it's the 2 litre 5 cylinder then not at lot goes wrong with that and you should see a lot more mileage from that engine.

If it's the 1.6 D2 version then they need to have been serviced on the button every time or they will give issues. Without definitive proof it's been done as it should be, walk away.

Cheers ROR. It's the 2.0 5 cylinder. I just need to check info on services.
Are they are timing belt or chain?
Should I be budgeting for any other big bills like a new clutch flywheel?

IIRC those Mazda engines have some issues...

Check out honestjohn.co.uk but I recall some issues with DPF regens resulting in diesel ending up in the sump and leading to engine runaway. Recommended that you dip the oil regularly to ensure the level has not increased and if so... you need to drain/change oil.

Edit: I had a 2016 Mazda 6, platinum spec.. which on paper was good but in reality I never really liked it. Everything just felt cheap or flimsy in it, nice looking cars tho.

Thanks. I have pretty much ruled out the 6 at this point. There are just to many cases of engine issues discussed online and on review websites to take the risk on this one.

I can't remember if it's belt or chain. I think it's chain - our old D5 was chain driven and the D3 you are looking at was a downsized version of the same engine.

Whatever you are looking at around that mileage is either going to have had a recent clutch and flywheel change, or need one soon.
