Hi Lads & ladies just looking for a bit of advice here.

I've been a member of my club 6 years now and have gotten a good few new members to join over that time.

The Issue. Pre warning Its long...

This year I got a friend of mine to join who hasn't played golf in a few years but has since got the Bug back! He joined at start of year was accepted via letter in post. At the end of Feb he rang to see what the story was with his HC and payment that no one has contacted him and he handed in 3 cards in, a couple of weeks ago.. Secretary got a bit smart with him and said that, it said in the letter you received you have to pay €100 deposit (I read the letter and didnt recall seeing that) anyway he didnt argue went straight out and paid the deposit. She asked how he wanted to pay the balance and he said he would pay it in cash in the next month or 2 (€400). He since then had to find out who the hc secretary was and chase him for his hc. This took a few weeks!

Roll on to June. No one has ever contacted him regards rest of payment and he hasnt been put on BRS system or received badge etc having asked a few times as far back as Feb. I was putting him down as a guest or someone else who I knew wasn't playing. Now I personally think he should of just paid the balance without waiting on them to contact him. But he said why should he have to ring them to pay and chase them as he hasn't received anything to say he was a member or been but on the brs system (he had no issue with paying just wanted some sort of contact from the club) after him ringing the club numerous times and saying it when playing & me might I add! at the weekend.

So come the end of June and with the captains day next month he just went out and paid the balance with the girl that runs the pro shop and again asked her to be put on brs system. No hassle it only take 5 mins.. In the last 2 weeks he has asked her 5 times still nothing (still has nothing to say he's a member) and she got a bit smart about it last weekend because she was busy and he was hassling her!!

So are Captains day is this weekend he rang the club yesterday girl in Pro shop has gone on holidays!! So he got the secretary which only works part time and is never there weekends. He was a bit pissed off and said to her he just wants to be put on brs system so he can play in captain's day she told him she herself is only back from holidays and is flat out its the first she's heard off it and could he ring back at 1pm. which he did to find out she was to busy to take call (she's always busy! and very hard to catch but is there years).. so he left a message with the lad that answered he doesnt care how they do it but to put mine and his name down for Sunday at 11.30 am (this was a free slot)

Are names were then put down for the fcuking Saturday!! Seriously.. So he is well pissed now (he works Saturday so its not an option) He told me that if his name isnt down for the captains day he is leaving and demanding his money back!. I for one dont want to lose him cas we play regular together as I would of previously just put my name down with different lads but its nice to have a regular playing partner plus I find it very embarrassing as its my club!! and I got him to join..

Where do you go from here? if I email the club I think the Secretary will see it as I think she gets emails (during the recession she was the only one kept on the books as the rest just volunteered in bar etc) plus this could cause bad blood between secretary girl who runs Pro shop etc He's a new member after all...

    Sorry its a long one!

    Cheers
    B

Your best bet would be to speak to the management company if its a managed club.

If its a member run club, speak to the Chairman or Captain and ask for their help or to be pointed in the right direction.

I always find i get the best responses when i ask for help, as opposed to demanding answers, etc.
