ID seem to have a decent enough offer at the moment on bill pay

    https://www.idmobile.ie/shop/phones-plans/bill-pay-plan

Create your bill from the above link and whatever the price is it's halved for 6 months. The top plan 10,000 calls/texts and 30GB of data will set you back €15 per month which isn't bad at all

The phone part of your bill (if you get a phone) is regular price unfortunately

These guys are leaving the Irish market aren't they?

Unlikely, they're part of carphone warehouse and there's money to be made from the Irish telephone market. Most importantly there's no proof of such

Oh right, it's just I read this article last week

Yea, they are selling up as losing millions on it. But looking for a new owner, the company will stay going... for 6 months anyways

You are wrong about that, it was even noted in their annual report that they are going to leave Ireland.

The question is if they will shut down the operation or try to sell it.

Recent reports indicate they might try to sell it but if they can not find a buyer they will simply shut down.

Giving that with them the mobile phone is not tied to the contract (while sim locked) when getting a phone now, you might need to continue paying the phone if they close down while they provide you with an unlock code. So buying now hoping that you get out like with the recent Three price hike might not work.

Had heard mixed reviews when the first set up here but had been told things had improved. I think i'll stay where I am now, thanks.

I would try this network if they have international call bundles , but they don't

My wife is with them and finds them good. Anytime I've called them about something I've found them grand to deal with.

Might move over for a few months before I go to virgin mobile with their deal.

    I'm going to try this,
2 sim only contracts can save me 120e for the year.
    not to be sniffed at

    edit-
Virgin have offered me nothing to stay

    Seems like a good deal.

Do ID Mobile have issues with short codes the same as Virgin Mobile? Is it all the MVNO's on the Three network that have the 'problem'?

I gave ID Mobile 12 months before they closed up and happy to have been proved wrong (it's been 2 years?). Although I still believe that ID were only setup as a temporary venture to ensure compliance with Comreg's requirements so Three could purchase O2. I wouldn't be surprised if Virgin Mobile weren't around much longer. Although they have a better chance as VM have quad play bunfles.

Be a real shame if they left. My wife and I are with them and have had no problems. The custom bills mean we could chose the perfect plan for us and still saved loads on the SIM free options.

Yeah, I have trouble with short codes from KBC. Google and PTSB seem fine.

Seems to be random alright. It is the same as VM and the main reason we didn't move to them. VM support don't even know which short codes work!!

If you have 2FA set up a code gets sent to your mobile which you enter in an app/website, to prove you are who you are.
    Edit: 2FA two Factor Authentication.

I'm not at all surprised that they haven't been successful and are looking to sell up.

There business plan looked poor from the beginning. Most of their plans were priced the same and contained much the same as what you could get from the big 3, Vodafone/Three/Meteor, while being a MVNO!

Didn't make any sense, I suspect they hoped to fool people into signing up for it in store. Their products just weren't competitively priced compared to the other MVNO's like Lyca, Tesco Mobile, etc.

Sure, they sometimes have decent enough deals for 6 months at half price, but then the price jumps to a lot more expensive after 6 months and most people don't want the trouble of having to change operator every 6 months. Poor market positioning over all I'd say.

I suspect Sky might be interested in buying them. Would allow Sky to become a quad play operator to better compete with Virgin and Eir who both have mobile arms.

    I'll give you my examples.

When you try to install KBC's banking app, you are asked for your phone number for them to send you a confirmation text message.

    It will never arrive.

If you book something online with argos, you won't get a confirmation text message.

Google and PTSB seem to work ok.

Mostly used for two factor authentication

Their flexibility was the big advantage. With other operators I get offered 100's of minutes and SMS that I almost never touch. All I want is data and with ID mobile I could shave it all back and bump up data in a way that's clearly understandable, unlike 3 and there nonsense.

When we joined I had 100 mins/tests and 20gb data for €10 for 6 months and only €20 after. Worked out pretty well.

That flexibility though clearly became pointless when most other companies offered unlimited calls, texts and loads of data for similar prices.

For instance Lyca mobile, €15 gets you unlimited calls, texts and 30GB of data!

This is part of why they are failing IMO. Too much complexity. Most people don't want to have to figure out how many calls or texts they might make a month and deal with increasing prices after 6 months. Just too much thought and trouble.

Most people just want simplicity, give them loads of texts, calls and data and a fixed cost so they don't have to mess around.

The fact ID attracted so few customers (estimated at just 19,000 out of their original 250,000 business plan) shows that they got it all wrong for most people.

Meteor and Vodafone are €30 a month for 15gb data, so straight away you'd be saving €20 a month for 6 months.

I guess I just think its a shame when a business plan is wrong because it underestimates how lazy the general public are about spending money unnecessarily.

Meteor are €20 for 15 GB data, plus YouTube and other stuff not counted towards your data allowance.

I think Meteor still have an offer going of 20 EUR/4 weeks for unlimited calls, texts and 15gb of data. There's a thread in this forum.

You pay for what you get. The Three network is horrendous IMHO.

Corrected your post for you ;)

On their website the supersaver 4g is €30 for 15gb, or €25 for 6 months if you sign up through the website.

    Re: All You Can Eat Data;
How long does the offer last?

The offer will be automatically applied to eligible customers from 11th November. Unlimited access to YouTube will end 30th of June 2017.

So it's over? Or Partially over?

Not sure why I'm even arguing here. I'm paying less then that, get what I need and am happy with the network. If you're happy with what you have more power to your elbow.

Take a look at the comparison table I created in this thread:
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057753216

You will see all the big networks offering the same or better deals for roughly the same money, without the hassles of a MVNO (short codes not working, etc.) and the complexity of ID's deals.

This is why they are failing.

Its a lovely table. My point was why should I pay €30 for unlimited anything when I can pay €17 and that covers what I want. I'm being sold a false economy by going for the €30.

    Who said €30!

Lycamobile gets you unlimited calls, texts and 30GB of data for €15

That is €5 per month less then you are paying, while giving you far more. This is why no one is signing up to ID. Too complicated and not good enough value for money.

    Lycamobile is 3G only!

Now sure IDMobile 4G is often worse than 3G from Lyca but in principle.

For mobile providers it's always important not just to look at the price but at the network, the data rates next to the inclusive volume and customer service.

The cheapest might not always be the best suited for an individual.

I rather pay more for a great network that consistently provides me with high speed data and voice quality rather than having a cheap provider that does not suit my needs.

No 4G so a different sort of false economy really.

Well if you want 4G, then go with Meteor, unlimited calls, texts and 20GB of data (+ free youtube, facebook, etc.) for €20

You get real 4G speeds not Three's terrible speeds. Plus HD voice, free Eir wifi and wifi calling. And all on a real network rather then the trouble of MVNO.

Again I'm just pointing out why ID has been a big failure in the market. They got their product make up and targeting all wrong.

Called ID today to switch the wife over from their SIM free and for me to move over.
Was told it's for new customers only.
    They've lost 2 customers.

That's mad, i was in carphone warehouse 2 months ago ago looking at different options and they didn't even mention ID! No wonder they're selling off.
They had a good option of get every month half price or something at the time, and i only found out about it after i'd left the shop. they didn't even mention it. i guess this has been on the cards for a while.

Might sign up and take advantage of the half price offer.
10.75e for a 30 day plan isn't to be sniffed at with 30gig worth of data.
Increases to 21.50 after 6 months if they're still around.
