No, you move from your current payment to a carers allowance payment.

What is your current payment? If it's jobseekers allowance that will stop when your carers allowance starts.

Carers Allowance is more money than JSA. It's €209 p.w. as opposed to €193 before any increases for children etc are taken into account. So you should be better off. There is a chance that you'll qualify for the Household Benefits Package if you live with your father. You will also qualify for the Carer's Support Grant which is paid in June every year. It's €1700 per year and it's a lump sum payment. If I were you I'd ring to see if you are getting it this year as you obviously applied for the Carer's Allowance a few months ago.
