Cloud Forest or Amazon?

    Hi all,

I'm after biting the bullet and I'm heading to the Galapagos in a few months. I've 3-4 nights left at the end of the trip though that I'm trying to plan in Ecuador.

Long story short, the decision has boiled down to either a trip to a Cloud Forest lodge, or a lodge in the Amazon.

In terms of what I'm looking for: I'll have spent the previous two weeks on a cruise, on a tour, rushing around the Galapagos so I'm looking for a few days of staying in one spot and working at my own speed. Both options seem to do the trick for me. Money isn't a massive issue as this is one of those bucket list, you can't take it with you, sort of trips.

I was wondering would anyone have experience and/or tips to direct me one way or the other? At the moment it seems like facilities etc. would be similar so the question really is elevation and do I like being close to a river or not!

    Thanks!

    Hi,

Did the Galapagos, Amazon & Cloud Forest a couple of years ago. If I had to choose, I would go with the Cloud Forest. In the Amazon there seems to be a lot of going & not so much downtime, plus I found it difficult to see the wildlife as everything is either high up in a tree or at a distance. Whereas in the Cloud Forest it seems more relaxed and you could do as little as you like. Stayed at this place outside of Quito and loved it. Happy travels!
