Poor taxi Man

Last night I flagged a taxi from the 3 arena. I had a lovely taxi man, and we were chatting away, then as we drove through East Wall this very scary looking man walks into the middle of the road with his takeaway bag,

My taxi driver slows down to let him by (Being decent he didn't even beep at the man) and the man, who seemed off his face and very aggressive, came up to the taxi, kicked the car, and kicked the wing mirror right off the car, made bits of it. He was screaming and shouting and kicking.

The taxi driver drove on as the man was very terrifying. I said to him call the guards immediately this isn't right, and he told me a sad fact that they can do nothing. They will take too long to come out the man will be gone and what can he do. He then proceeded to show me a scar on the back of his head where he had been attacked with a knife in Tallaght once and they robbed his taxi money.

I really felt for him, He was such a nice man, and visibly upset. He was not from Ireland, but what he told me about his experiences of being a taxi driver in Dublin made me feel pretty bad.

My question is what would possess someone to kick a random car and be scarily aggressive for no reason. It really frightened me. i just cant understand it.

Oh he's fighting a drug habit and looking after his disabled mother, and yes he's got 50 convictions but he's been in rehab since 3 days ago and doing really well. He's only a young lad of 17 with his whole life ahead of him. He's on a list with fas to do a course when he gets out!

Drink and Drugs and poor judges is your answer.

Just an angry pr1ck whose parents more than likely did a lousy job and who has no fear of the law because they'll do f all about it. Very sad indeed.

Some people either can't handle their drink or use drunkenness as an excuse to be a prick. In Ireland we allow people to be pricks when they're drunk and forgive them when they're sober.

I don't forgive anyone for stuff they've done inebriated. If they turn into a dick with drink or drugs, then don't do the drink or drugs. I think people just use the drink and drugs as an excuse to act out. I've never been so out of it on anything that I've lost the run of myself. I've been a dickhead on drink but I knew I was being a dickhead and the drink was no excuse.

People are as*holes sober let alone high or drunk.

That's one of the major negatives about being a taxi man. Dealing with the general public

could also be racially motivated if the driver didn't look "irish"

I did wonder the same, If it was a big tough taxi driver from Dublin or anywhere in Ireland would he have been as quick to kick his car. My taxi driver was a small older man.

Can I ask if you're genuinely asking that question or is it a hypothetical?

Genuinely. I have never ever seen someone that angry in my life for no apparent reason. It was completely random, we had done nothing to provoke it. I have been thinking about it all day. Its made me think that it isn't safe to walk around that area anymore. But i know there is the other side you can't live your life like that afraid of your shadow etc.

Okay, if I leave my cynical side away for a minute and believe that you've never seen anything like that before then you have to be either very young or you don't go out much.

Random acts like this do happen on a regular basis because people are drunk or out of their head on drugs, no rhyme or reason to it.

I've a feeling though you're just baiting to see if anyone will ask if the taxi man was coloured or not. If that's what your at why not just ask the question out straight? Is there racism going on in Dublin? The answer is yes.

    Definitely not baiting.

Okay, well then in answer to your question I've seen this kind of thing happen lots of times.

You can't let it stop you living your life. Just have to avoid engaging with these animals because there is no logic involved. Taxi-man was right, he would have wasted half his night reporting that incident for nothing.
