What is involved in servicing a car

So just got my car serviced at a main Nissan dealer. Its a 2009 Qashqai.

There was a warning light on the dash before I left it in. I looked it up and its something to do with airbags.

I forgot to mention this when leaving it in and the light is still on.

The car needed new brake pads and bushels(??) overall I spent €800 including the service. They contacted me before doing the extra work but never mentioned the warning light and as I said it slipped my mind so I never mentioned it either.

Would this be normal? Does a garage not look at warning lights and take action accordingly?

Not a big deal but just curious.

    Thanks

    Titan

They should of mentioned it and you should of mentioned it..Airbag faults can be dangerous and it won't pass Nct with the light on.

My suggestion would be take it back to Main Dealers and ask them to check it out.

I'm surprised that they didn't contact you. You wouldn't usually get too involved in warning lights during a routine service unless they are very obvious. I'm sure they'll have no problem looking at it if you ask them.

Pretty shocking thing to miss for them if it's on permanently.

Just got onto them there. They said they'll have a look at it tomorrow for me. Person in service seemed surprised it was missed. To be fair I didnt mention it either so if they can sort it out with minimal fuss (he said hopefully) I'll be happy.

Just be prepared, lights go on for a reason, they won't just turn it off and not charge you anything. They'll have to connect diagnostics and determine the cause which could be anything from a seat occupancy sensor, a frayed wire harness or bad safety module of some kind. Be prepared for more money to be handed over.

Actually the fix is paid for by the garage, which didn't cause the fault in the first place. If stealing is your cup of tea, go for it.

Obvious to see on the dash yes, but the root cause may not be which is what I was referring to.

You're not going to get a technician spending hours chasing a fault which they may not even be able to sell repairs on during a €149 splash and dash service.

Finding the fault is a seperate job, which the customer should request or the technician should suggest.

Sure garages been doing it for years!

So the car failed NCT which was expected. Failed on the airbag light which we knew would happen but also rear foglamp in bumper is bashed. Knew that could cause a fail and pointed out by the garage but got away with it last time (yes its been like that over 2 years)

Also failed on a rear stop light which must literally have just gone this morning (all indicators and lights worked last night)

and failed on something to do with steering wheel (dont have the sheet wife brought car)

So I'm looking at probably another €600 at least. super.

    Thanks for all the comments.

The clock springs in the Quasqais are prone to giving trouble. It'd be a popular reason for the airbag light to be on the dash and also for things like the indicators not self cancelling or the horn not working.

Sounds like this may be your issue.

There are a few variations of the part depending on your exact model between €180 and €250 from a main dealer and around an hours labour to fit.
