New Lens for Landscapes & Video

    Hi All,

Looking for a bit of advice if I could. I would consider myself a beginner-light intermediate photographer and intermediate videographer but not with a DSLR. I own a Canon 750D which I have had for 3 years. I'm looking to move away from my other video camera set up and move to DSLR. At the minute I have the kit lens that came with the 750D (18-55mm F3.5-5.6) and a 55-250mm F4-5.6 IS STM.

I'm looking to upgrade the kit lens to something better that will give me a good range (from ~18mm to ~70) and be usable for video and photo. I understand that with the APS-C sensor in my camera, I will get a different range than a full frame. My budget is around 700 euro absolute max. I've been looking at the Canon EF 24-70mm f4L IS USM, the Tamron SP AF 24-70mm f2.8 VC and the Canon EF 17-40mm f4L USM. I'm drawn to the Tamron for the extra few stops and possible better low light performance for video and night photography but would I be mad to go for that instead of the 24-70mm or 17-40mm Canon?

The quality of the Canons would be better I'd imagine but I have never used any of the above lenses before. I wouldn't be able to stretch my budget to any of the f2.8 versions of the Canons so its either the Tamron or those above. Any help would be appreciated. I have had a look through the previous threads mentioning these lenses but there doesn't seem to be much mention of video (obviously enough in this forum!) Thanks in advance.

For landscapes, the 17-40mm is likely to be grand. It'll be a little less versatile than 24-70mm for "overall" use. Functionally 24.5-60mm vs 36-105mm on aps-c.
    Not an easy choice.
Tamron and Sigma make decent 17-70's that would serve that entire range is a single lens less expensively. I'm not sure what kind of price range a similar Canon lens would be in.

Thank you. I'm pushed more towards the 17-40 for the landscapes and wide angle to be honest. I will have a look at the 17-70's as they would fit the bill for everything! Thanks.

    Considering this now: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/652136-USA/Tamron_AFB005C700_SP_AF_17_50mm_f_2_8.html

Maybe not from B & H considering the customs duty I'd have to pay but does anyone have this lens? Any opinions?

20mm isn't bad for landscape, but it's not super wide. On aps-c, 20mm is like 30-33mm, depending on the exact sensor size. It's also a prime, so it's 20mm to 20mm... The 27-40 gets wider.
    It's probably a very nice 20mm, though.

I recently bought the Canon EF 10-18 mm lens. Very happy with it so far.

I'm hoping to get something with f2.8 for low light if possible so I don't think the 10-18 would do the job unfortunately.
