Guy going to have a look at drilling for well for me tomorrow as drilling in area. Any advice on rough costings per m?

Is there anything on TAMS for drilling a well on an outfarm as a young trained farmer I wonder ?

    Thanks

Depends how deep you have to go to get the supply you need. Briody drilled one here about ten years ago.
220 feet deep cost around 2800 euro.

Just don't forget, you drill - you pay, water or not.

Friend got caught, drilled theee bores and no water, very steep bill but no useable water.

same--got briodys few years back-€10 a foot, had to go 250ft, ended up costing €4500
water tested recently--had ecoli + full lime, so had to put in a softner tank+ecoli light... costed €1300..
so well can be expensive... and mains was close to me, it was costing €1850 to connect then, then pay digger man,etc.. would have been cheaper!

I know we're there is a spring along the lane on our farm could it be drilled as a well be handy for cattle drinking instead of carting up barrels would u just line it then with concrete liners also it's near rock so could mean a lot of hammer work ...just wondering anyone ever do it ...

Could you draw up a contract with your uncle for a reasonable yearly price or a per litre charge at a fair rate (not Irish water rates)?
I have a similar situation and a neighbour accommodates me for €300 per annum. 40 acres and it is used for silage so only grazing after grass. Both of us are happy with this arrangement.

Can you see water or how do you know it's there ? Would a cheap option be to dig a hole and use a pasture pump if it's just for cattle and the water is near the surface

We put in concrete pipes into a place like that years ago. Maybe pipes 4 or 5 ft wide, I think two of em went in, so maybe 10ft deep? Hardcore all round em then... (was a long time ago now, not 100% sure of the dimensions)

    It did two things
    - We had a well, which is what we wanted
    - It dried out the ground all round a lot more than we suspected.

Where we put it, wouldn't have been that near rock. It was a bit of a rushy spot, but when we put in the pipes, the area all around the new well, and a good bit away from it dried up a lot.

However, as there was no power there, we couldnt run a pump. But we ran a pipe out of it, and a long ways away to get a gravity fall from the well - but this worked ok...

Not sure that helps Leoch :)

Could u dig down 6 or 8 feet and drop in a few 3ft diameter concrete pipes?

Neighbour of mine dug down to the rock ( approx 10ft). You could see the water trickling up through the cracks in the rock. He then put large precast pipe units on their ends, starting on top of the rock and building up to ground level. The pipe joints should be sealed as the bottom pipe on top of the rock.
Capped it off with a slab with a 6" hole to drop down the submersible pump.

The pipe units provide capacity for during the day and it recharges fully at night.

About 3' before the slab (which is 3 foot underground too) he put in a 4" outlet pipe to drain away the extra water as this spring would soak the surrounding fields

You'll need a pressure vessel to pressurise the system.

Diviner was in today .. Water was strong and not over deep , my uncle is lower than me and they hit water at 60ft and again at 130ft but they went down to 180ft for business purposes as would have extra demand , 60ft may do few cattle I have.

10 euro a foot drilled and lined and E1000 for submersible pump (5 year warranty), collection tank and all pipe work and relevant fittings

Ballpark 2k .. I can use jenny then 220 V, solar or my uncle will give me a lead til I get agricultural connection
