We have current quiz shows like Pointless, The Chase, Eggheads and Mastermind which has been running for decades, previously there was, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, and the Weakest Link, but which is the greatest quiz show which has graced our screens.

WWTBAM for me. Although Tarrant got stale in the later series' it was the prize money and the format which made it so entertaining for years.
Murphy's Micro Quiz M had the nation glued for a while too. Completely of its time, it was the first irish one to offer any half decent prizes. It even beat Blankety Blank!

The Golden Shot was my first real memory of gameshows - great concept with the camera "doing the shooting" - can't remember if it was a quiz?

I have to say 15 to 1 is one that really stands out, tough questions with very little time to answer, the early series would definitely have been before my time but i watched the repeats on challenge, a true test of knowledge.

University Challenge has been on the air since 1962, and surely deserves a mention (even if these days the producers seem to be making the show with at least one eye on press and social media coverage).

I do wish there were more videos of the Bamber Gascoigne era on YouTube:

The Krypton Factor famously promoted itself as "television's toughest quiz", and ran for nearly 20 years (with a revival in 2009 and 2010):

Winning Lines is widely regarded as being the best of the many UK National Lottery game shows - it was made by Celador of WWTBAM fame, and it featured an epic end game:

And I think 1000 Heartbeats should be mentioned, too. What a shame this show didn't reel in the casual viewers... :(
