Hi looking for some advice about a petrol c class.

Do mostly city driving so am set on a petrol. Not easy to find petrol c class in Ireland. Option is for a 2008 model for about 10000 or 2012 model in the UK for about 20000 (everything included)

Are the 3 extra years worth the 10000 extra? Anything to watch out for?

    Thanks

The ultimate question of buying used cars - how much premium a newer one has? It is different for everyone.

With W204, there was a facelift in 2011, so it might be a good idea to get a newer one. While the W204 is a solid offering, there were a few issues eliminated with the facelift, with the lamps connectors burning out being the biggest.

In W204 the diesels are generally better option than petrols. If you want a petrol, don't get one with more than 4 cylinders.

The petrol engines in pre-face W204 are the same motors as in W203 (M271: C180K = C200K, C200K = C230K), with slight de-tune by reducing max revolution. IIRC all of them suffer from chain issues in W203, but in W204 are a bit better. In newer models the M274 is used - which is turbocharged. Don't know about any issues with them; should be much more efficient - the M271 is a gas-sucker...

And as with every Mercedes, especially coming from UK, make sure it is not eaten already by a red-hair friend.

    Hi Ryder,

What did you end up going for in the end?
