Replacement for a much loved plasma

So most unfortunately this week my youngest smashed the screen of my panny plasma and it is sadly no more. I have only today got to stage 5 "acceptance" and now have to begin the search for a new set. If I had the budget I'd be asking you for best price on LG B7 and be done with it however really unable to go much above 1k (and preferable stay under) as this is an unplanned expense. With pq being the ultimate consideration I could stretch a little if there really is a great deal available at moment on something that in your opinion delivers an outstanding picture.

Unfortunately feel that even given HDR and UHD developments any replacement is pretty much going to be a step down in terms of picture quality as LED technology general weak in contrast and motion but I do hope I'm wrong on that point. So rather than being excited at idea of picking up some shiny new tech in near future generally resigned to having to take a backwards step here. Suppose when OLED eventually comes down to more reasonable price I'd get one of these.

Anyway so 49 to 55 inches what would you guys recommend?

    Hi Omancron.

Sorry to hear that your Panasonic plasma had an accident.

It is pretty tough to replace a Plasma but there are some good screen on the market that are not OLED.

Samsung offer their NEW 55MU6100 priced at 859.00 Euro
    http://euro.richersounds.ie/p-202632-ue55mu6100.aspx

Hisense has the 55N5700 priced at 879.99 Euro
    http://euro.richersounds.ie/p-202656-55n5700.aspx

And their ULED the 50N6800 priced at £899.99 Euro
    http://euro.richersounds.ie/p-202653-50n6800.aspx

or the 55N680 right at the top of budget priced at 999.99 Euro
    http://euro.richersounds.ie/p-202663-55n6800.aspx

Panasonic offer up the NEW 50EX700 coming in at 989.00 euro
    http://euro.richersounds.ie/p-202566-viera-tx50ex700b.aspx

They are also a small amount of the Panasonic 58DX802 left priced at just over budget at 1049.00 Euro.

Have a check over the above and let me know if any of them catch your eye.

Any questions please let me know.

Thanks Kenny, good list, that Panny 802 seems to get good reviews from a few places. Say I wanted to push the boat out on budget any opinions on the Sony xe90 seems to get strong reviews and has android. Appreciate out of budget but would it be worth it compared to options you have listed above?

    Hi Omacron.

Yip the 802 is a very nice screen indeed and produces a very very good image.
They are selling well so I don't see them hanging around for too long.

The NEW Sony XE90 range is even better again when in comes to the image it produces and I feel the colours are more alive.
The 55XE9005 priced at 1699 Euro which is a good price as it makes it cheaper than the sterling price of £1595.00

This would be better than pretty much all of the TVs mentioned above but it is a much higher price.

You would be blown away by the Sony, we have had one running on our shopfloor since they were released.

    Hey Omacron.

The 49XE9005 is currently priced at the same as the 55 at 1699 Euro or £1399.00.

It really does make the 55" a cracking deal as our competitors are currently 1899 on the 55".

Thanks kenny that is a great deal on the Sony. I suppose I have to ask the inevitable question if I was to pull out all the stops and go for lg b6 which I think you have a few left on website. Would I be getting a much better set?

    Hi omacron,

Unfortunately we sold out of the last of the LG 55B6 TVs! We can't order any more in as they are discontinued and have been replaced by the b7. The Sony 9 series TVs are still fantastic though!

Let me know what you think.

    Kind regards

    David
