Just wondering has anyone been to one? Thoughts? Are they worth the money?
Or if you haven't then why?

Saw SoSue and Rosies snaps of their goody bags today, and I was seriously unimpressed.

I went to a Tara makeup workshop a couple of years ago and it wasn't on the same scale as some of the "top bloggers" but I didn't find I learnt anything new or benefited from going. It was a nice girls day out.

I'm wondering when are these going to die out?! Everyone is at them. It's such a gimmick imo. The tickets are fairly pricey for what it is too.

I know! Surely anyone who wants to go to one of themhas been by now? That being said people still seem to go mad for Pippas and become irate with her on social media when she they can't get tickets.

I find their success mind blowing. Like really. When you see the behind the scenes on snapchat of some of them at Pippa's FF, these are like grown up women. Not teens or even early 20s- older than that. And then you have someone behind the camera like, "so ladies what did ye learn today".. "oh I learned how to apply tan properly and my friend learned how to apply highlighter".. I mean WHAT. You didn't know any of that before you went? Really? Even though you're clearly wearing tan now and I'm pretty sure you've highlighter on.

It's just mad. And it's always the same products being plugged- Vita Liberata, The Cleanse off Mitt, Sculpted by Aimee, Betty&Biddy, Cloud 10, Sally Hansen, and some juice drink and popcorn. Not worth the hefty price tag all all, IMO.
In saying that there seems to be huge demand for them, people literally keel over if they can't get Pippa tickets and she gets serious abuse over it.
They don't sound like an enjoyable day to me anyway. And I can't imagine the "influencers" get much out of it anymore either. Must be kind of boring doing and saying the exact same thing week after week.

How much are tickets to Rosie Connolly's masterclasses?

She posted a while back about one of her goody bags on Snapchat, and it was really good. It included full-size Urban Decay palettes, as well as some other UD products, together with plenty of other stuff. I'd say the goody bag alone was worth €70-80. If you were a fan and spending €100 on a ticket, including lunch and that goody bag, then I'd say you'd be delighted.

In saying that, I don't really get it. You're just paying to watch them talk about the exact same stuff as they do on SC etc. I'd much rather watch a makeup tutorial on YT as at least you can pause, rewind, etc. I personally don't see the appeal.

Edit: Just looked up and they're €65, but don't think that includes lunch. The UD products might have been a once-off, but this person attended and the goody bag she got looks like it's worth well over €65!

Smart business move in the beginning as I would imagine it is a great money maker for bloggers/influencers. I would guess that everything in the goody bags are free samples, discounted use of hotel spaces in exchange for promotions, borrowing clothes from river island etc.

I personally don't the point of them, the market is saturated and all seems like regurgitated material but each to their own. I have never been to one myself so that's just my opinion from the outside.

I saw SoSues goodie bags on snapchat at the weekend, im sorry but they are pure ****. Most of the stuff in them are her own branded items (which we all know where they come from anyway and are just rebranded - in saying that at least she admits it), then there was a soap from avoca, chocolate from some other brand....they are the only things i can remember, but i would doubt her workshops are cheap.
Me personally, i wouldnt ever dream of handing over 80-100 quid for one of them days, its madness, but more power to them for attracting the crowd all the same.

*does anyone know pippas snapchat? ill start following her to see what all the fuss is about.

I think the goody bag you are thinking of from a good few weeks ago, was from a special charity masterclass she did with the Laura Lynn foundation. She had mothers and nurses of the children at it (for free) and they all got an amazing goody bag. She asked on snapchat for specific donations for the goody bags as it was such a worthy cause. I'm pretty sure she had full size naked pallets etc in that goody bag.

Her normal ones are not that good. They seem boring and you would never go buy the make up products that are in them, they seem cheap and like she got them for free as they weren't sold as were taking up room in some pharmacies stock room? The colours of the polishes and make up are always a bit "out there".

I presume most of the bloggers are under the same agent, Andrea Roche, so they have the same suppliers for the masterclasses? Like the same toothpaste and nuts etc. The same brands seem to be in them to, eg rimmel, catrice, crown brush.

Ah ok, I was wondering. It was the first time I'd ever watched a blogger go through their goody bag and I was thinking it was pretty amazing!!

Yeah I'd say most of the stuff is "end of line" stuff, but you could still come away pretty happy. In that link I posted, there are some decent bits in there, including a €40 voucher for a salon.

The goody bags seem to be very hit and miss I think, I haven't seen a lot of what's in Pippa's ones but her tickets are €100, Sue's are €75 so it's a fierce money spinner. The hotels I would say get a lot of business so their room rental would be discounted and the bags are all donated. They all usually have stalls outside the room too, selling things.
I know from doing events myself that there would be a lot of organising in them but as you do more that would become easier, so it's a big return for the work.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 436 ✭✭Ray37

I seriously don't understand why people want to go to these events. All the ladies you see there clearly know how to put on tan and makeup, don't they realize they are going to a ticketed event, which is just a giant ad for other products? There are a million tanning and makeup tutorials on Youtube... I think some of these ladies are just blinded by their 'idols', and would hand over e75 to watch them sleep at this point!

I don't get them either. They are hugely popular. My two sisters have been to Pippas one in Limerick and Roz Purcells one in Kilkenny. They enjoyed both as entertainment but didn't "learn" anything from it. I just think it's a very expensive live QVC show.

TBH when I saw the title of this thread I assumed it was workshops on how to blog successfully.

If it's just certain types of bloggers showing off their skills then it's no different really from a workshop you'd go to hosted by say, the ICA or maybe a cook showing off how to do flower arranging or whatever. Grand if that's your thing, but seems a bit odd considering most folks who have an interest in a topic enough to follow bloggers in that arena presumably know how to do most stuff?

All the talk about goody bags confused me too. I have no interest in beauty bloggers! Actual blogger workshops might be handy though.

Sinead of The Beautiful Truth did a blogging workshop called Anseo with Beauty Nook's partner John (I think) recently enough but I don't know if they're regular events.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 370 ✭✭heyjude88

I titled the thread workshops, because thats what the bloggers are calling them sorry. Pippas are the fashion factories, some have masterclasses, but most are workshops.

Totally get your point, i'll try change the thread name.

Does anyone know why some bloggers announce shows. Sell tickets. Then they get cancelled with no mention? Two people I've seen do this now. One has done it twice.

I'm wondering is it just they don't sell enough tickets (which is fair enough) or is there a dodgy reason!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 433 ✭✭fg1406

I imagine it's ticket sales. It would have to be worth their while selling enough tickets to stage the event. Leaving aside the financial aspect of it, the industry the bloggers operate in is hugely dependent on optics and reputation. It wouldn't reflect well on the blogger if they delivered one of their workshops to a venue that's only 1/3 full.

Why did MUF and new fella not go ahead with the workshop they had planned to do?

They said it was because they didn't have space to do a proper workout demo, I'd be more inclined to think very few people were willing to shell out e99 to see a beauty blogger and her boyfriend tell you to go to the gym tbh... They were very hush hush about cancelling it, so I just don't think it sold well enough.

They normally justify the cost, by saying you get lunch/afternoon tea and a drink, and also by saying the goodie bag is worth €X. Leaving out that the contents of said goody bag are donated by various businesses, the only thing it costs them is the bags they put them in.
I'm not sure the quality of the food etc and I realise they have overheads to pay to organise and set up these things but...these in no way justify paying €75/100 for a couple of hours, it's not even the full day, normally 3 hours max.

So the fashion factories are bank rolling Pippa.... this isnt even including her POCOS :O

I think Rosie and Sue's goody bags looks absolutely shocking. So bad, never heard of some of the brands. Both must have the same agency behind them as they both have sponsored products I've never heard of in the bags. Also its mostly the same stuff eg flormar, random lipsticks etc. Crappy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,114 ✭✭✭222233

I think they are probably a nice day out, I personally would not pay to go though, I wouldn't see any value in it other than a day out really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 856 ✭✭✭idunno78

Is it me or did both bags look almost identical? Or did sue show hers twice?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 252 ✭✭ciaradx

Just on the goodie bags: Sinéad's (Beautiful Truth) look unreal. Full size products of really goos brands and loads of spot prizes.
