Does anyone know what the problem might be if the lawnmower only starts with the 'kill switch' disconnected. It starts first time with the switch disconnected -reconnecting the switch stops it but when leaving it on ,it wont start

Bad switch or wiring is striped and grounding against mower body...check wiring leading to switch and ground wire at coil...

Checked the wire and all seems good ,would the wire killing the engine signify that the wire is good?. Where it connects by the brake ,the metal plate was rusted ,taking that apart a spring popped out and a small piece of brass (akin to the setup of a lighter) cleaned it up and put it back on and still no joy!

There will be a black wire leading from the brake to the coil at flywheel...when you stop mower by releasing the brake handle /lever this grounds the coil which stops the spark plug receiving current...remove the cover on top of mower and check that the black ground wire is not damaged...what mower is this?...you mentioned a kill switch?

I've checked that wire and it seems to be perfect ,it was covered with a canvas sheet -took it off and it looks perfect. I'm probably wrong in calling it a kill switch! , the wire goes from the coil to under the brake where it connects to a plastic fitting that is covered with a thin metal plate. Its a 'Easymo NGP C4001' .
