Offered a job yesterday which I am unlikely to take in any case for a variety of reasons , but was asked for a payslip from my current position and told I need to let them know within 1 day if I'm taking it or not. Is that normal, particularly the payslip one.Been a while since I have done the new job thing.

I've never been asked for a payslip, and absolutely wouldn't give one myself. No reason for new employer to have it whatsoever.

Did you ask why they wanted the payslip? I would assume its to determine your current salary, bit imo your current salary should have nothing to do with what the new company are willing to pay you, unfortunately some companies are more concerned with ensuring they pay some as little as possible rather than keeping their staff happy. Personally I'd be reluctant to work for such a company but everyone has their own needs so what I would do may not be what the next person would advise.

ask them to send their first, and you'll counter offer  sounds dodgy practice whatever company may be.

I would play along and ask them how they handle personal data like this. Do they keep it in a file for years on end? My payslips have my date of birth, address and PPS number so they would want to have robust data protection procedures to ask for something like this.

Yah i would never deal with a salary like that.

When it comes to Salary i go well what do you think is fit and we go from there. AS i always will know the amount I am looking for in my head and what is very fair.

A good company will offer you say a amount and then you counter offer and then you normally meet in the middle.

But i would not give any future job my payslips.
