    Hi all,

Wanting to clean the filter on the shower inlet as I don't seem to have a great flow from the cold feed. I don't know for definite, but I'm thinking it may be due to a faulty water softener that was in the house at some point and leaked crystals into the tank, which have been blocking inlets in places (dishwasher feed filter was clogged by them, tap aerators, etc).

Anyway, I just wanted to double check - If I turn off the mains under the sink, drain the cold tank by running taps etc, and then run the hot taps until there is no flow, is that the best way to turn off the water supply to the shower? Or, is there a better way to turn off the hot supply?

I don't seem to have any isolation valves that I can see directly at the shower.

Thanks in advance for any help.

If the shower was installed correctly it will have its own half inch cold supply coming from the tank. Look at the attic tank for this pipe. It should have its own isolation valve. Sadly some plumbers save 3 euro &dont fit a valve.
In the hot press you usually have two, three quarter inch pipes coming from the attic. One is the cold supply for the bathroom & the other supplies the hot water cylinder. There should be valves on these pipes, usually around shoulder height.
Try shutting off these valves. You may not need to drain the tank at all. Draining the tank can let dirt into the pipes ordered cause airlocks after you refill the tank. I usually try avoid draining the tank if at all possible.
Make sure that you turn the power off before you take the cover off the shower. User manual will show you where the filters are

Thanks for that. I'll have a root around in the attic at the weekend and look for the cold supply valve - hopefully it will have an isolation valve. There are a few valves in the hot press alright. I know the one for refilling the central heating, so I'll investigate the others and see if I can find the correct one for the hot supply.

Finally got around to sorting this today! Valve for cold feed was in hot press right behind the entry point for the shower, and valve for hot tank was in there too.

As I thought, the cold feed filter was totally clogged with salt, but have cleaned it out now and even on a cold shower it still takes the back off you! The pump is also running at a much lower noise/level, so I guess it's going to be more efficient now too. Happy days!

    Thanks for the advice.
