Sorry to hear it. He's a great presenter. Have always enjoyed his slots, be it the Blue of the Night or years ago when he presented the morning show. He's leaving to pursue other projects apparently.

Be interesting to see who replaces him.

That's a big loss, the best Lyric presenter IMO. Love Blue of the Night, hope they stick with a similar format and not just stick on some light Classical show.

I've been dreading this moment for years.

I'll have to see if it's possible to pull down the archives over the years.

Best presenter on Irish radio IMO.

Maybe they'll move John Kelly to the late night slot ?

A loss alright, listening to the blue of the night is one of the pleasures that makes the late evening commute tolerable.

    Ah,that's a pity,always liked his show.
As was mentioned hope they don't change the format.
JK would be great at that time but doubt if he would be happy with the move :)

Maybe Donal Dineen will get the gig ? I think he even filled in for Carl one time.

Sad to see Carl leave Lyric, always enjoyed his "Blue of the Night" , likewise Eamon Lenehan a few years back - both essential early hours listening for those night owls among Lyric listeners. Donal Dineen would be an interesting proposition as replacement - perhaps he will fill in as one of the guest presenters over summer?

All good things come to an end, unfortunately.

That would be awesome, I made a spotify playlist from a week he stood in a couple of years ago and it remains a favourite. Ian McGlynn who has been producing the show would be a good pick.

The way they have been running Lyric recently its more likely they will give it to someone totally inappropriate like Aideen Gormley and let her turn it into yet another Movies and Musicals type show :(

I've done the same from some of Carl's night's, makes for excellent spotify lists.

Not that I'd be happy at all with Gormley on the blue.

But I'm fine with shows like movies and musicals. It's great for getting kids interested., Definitely has a place on lyric.

I agree it has a place, unfortunately there was also a place for jazz, world music and Irish music programs but instead of expanding their range management at LFM seem determined to push towards a world of your hundred best tunes / Classic FM format.

The last episode was great and quite emotional. I hadn't realised before that the leaving was due to RTÉ's age cap - Carl is 65 today, and that also explains finishing on a Tuesday. I wonder how the likes of Gay Byrne and Larry Gogan get around it. Must be under a certain number of hours per week.

Carl Corcoran must have been a staff presenter so.
Staff have to go on their 65th birthday - same in recent times with David Davin-Power, Michael Murphy, Alf MacCarthy and Brendan Balfe.

It seems no exceptions are made and they can't be re-hired the following Monday as contractor or freelancer.

A few of them made a bit of a stink in the media about having to go, but to no avail.

The Gay Byrnes and Larry Gogans and Ronan Collins'ssss are contractors, as far as I know and retirement is their own business, not RTEs.

If only that was all they did.
Dire Straits, Abba, 'hilarious' stories from the papers and unfunny texts from Ireland's most boring retirees is a long way from Classic FM's successful format.

Despite some credible successes like Blue of the Night, Lyric is RTE's dustbin for talent and formats not wanted elsewhere.

Quite a moving finale indeed - such a pity to see both Carl and his former Blue Of The Night colleague Eamonn Lenehan gone from the airwaves. " The Blue" was mainly the soundtrack of my last decade , my introduction to some of the most wonderful pieces of music and the basis of quite a bit of my music collection at this stage. Hopefully Carl gets a radio gig elsewhere so that we may once again be into " the Blue", ditto for Eamonn Lenehan , both presenters leaving a huge void in late night radio . Wishing them well in whatever projects and endeavours they may pursue

Bernard clarke who does the gig now doesn't sound like he enjoys it imo.
