What's your favourite crisp?

I've had a mad hankering for a big dirty bag of cheesy Doritos for about a week, but alas I'm abroad in Brussels, the Land of No Cheesy Doritos it would seem.

I figured I should branch out and seek inspiration from the good folk of AH on expanding my culinary crisp horizons.

So tell me, what's your favourite crisp?

Are Rancheros or Trekkers still on the go?

I used to enjoy skips when I was younger, but I feel they lack substance as a grown up.

Now I'd go for Taytoses cheese and onion.

Not gone on cheese and onion I have to say, the bang off them is intense and the aftertaste...

    Do love Hunky Dory's though

I like O Donnells crisps these days but nothing comes close to the Monster Munch that used to be out years ago.

Waffles and a bar of toffee crisp.

    Or Keoghs cheese and onion.

    Or O'Donnell's hickory barbeque.

    You slag!

Manhattan cheese and onion(the crowd that make the popcorn),YUM!

Not for the faint hearted though,if you think that the flavour of tayto cheese and onion is too strong, look elsewhere!

I don't want to be a pedant but I'll go right ahead and be a pedant and say that Doritos aren't crisps.

I don't know who I hate more; Culchies that refer to all crisps as 'Taytos', regardless of brand or Dubs that say 'crips' instead of crisps.

Farmer Brown's Worcester Sauce or Spring onion. Always a tough decision given my take home pay from school.

Luckily I also knew some adults back then who had the funds to buy me me a pack of PUB KINGS Crisps ( the best crisps ever) at a wedding or one of those rare/legitimate occasions when a kid was brought to a pub !

Sam Spudz Smokey Bacon Crinkled crisps. Stuff of legend! King Pub Crisps. Tayto did a version too. Crisps these days are very boring. Keoghs can be nice sometimes.

They were sensational, and only 12p a bag back around 95, so very much in the Mega Meanies, Banshee Bones price bracket.

Presently indulging in a bag of Kettle Chips.

    Mature cheese and cheddar onion.

    Solid reliable performance so far.

Large 150 gram bag ensuring satisfaction.
However I am concerned by the lack of 'crisp' on the packaging.

Reasonably priced. Safe, middle of the road crisp. The VW passat of crisps.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,257 ✭✭✭BettePorter

For me it's brannigans roast beef and mustard. A proper beast of a crisp. I can only get them up north but dealz on occasion do the ham and pickled flavour.

Tayto are gorge when they are literally just packaged. U can be lucky and hit a batch that can make u eat 3 bags in a sitting.

The sad decline in the overall quality of corn based snacks is moderately distressing.

The modern Monster Munch are a pale relation of what they were in the 80's and 90's - a strong pickled onion flavored snack, enhanced with just the right amount of artifical flavours.
