Read before in article on how well Joe Duffys are doing , that they were building new Porsche dealership - anyone hear anything on this ?
While its good Ireland has a dealer and their showroom stock is good - their premises are pretty bad for the only dealer in a country of 4.5 million people.

Not sure if premises are leased , but not much room to do anything with premises anyway.
Their used stock is very small also - but lack of new cars sold for a no. of years and high uk prices ( for importing cars) would explain this. Decent sales in recent years should improve stock in future.

I believe the dealer in Belfast is building new premises near the Titanic , despite the Norths car market being very flat for a no. of years Porsche sales up there are booming.

Porsche are relatively speaking much better value in NI.

p.s. I've seen a few done deal ads for Porsche Centre Dublin. Alan's accent is hilarious.

The cost difference for a new premium car is huge, and a Porsche is a lot more affordable there. You could buy new (if from NI) for what you'd have to pay here for a several year old second hand Porsche.

I would say the demand for main dealer servicing is pretty limited in the South. There is a good population of Porsches down here since the boom of second hand imports during the late 90s early 2000s, but that has all but dried up. Unfortunatley, the price of 964s and 993s has rocketed in recent years putting them out of reach of mere mortals. Only the 996 remains affordable as it's seen as less desireable. Not sure if the 997 will follow suit.

When I had my 993, I used the then Porsche dealer in Dublin - Belgard Motors. Once was enough and I never went back. Had work done by an indepentend and up in Porsche Centre Belfast after that.

worked in Belgard for a while in late 90s, there was a middle age guy who I think went to Specialist cars in Chapelizard when Belgard closed ?

Barry Whelan is well regarded , when I worked for HB Dennis in late 90s , we offloaded some of our services to him when we had to many cars booked in !
Remember he replaced tyres on customers car and then customer disputed they were needed and we couldn't show her her old tyres !

is this for definite ? that's where Vw is going too ? yes ?

Seems strange they would have a Porsche dealership in Finglas . lol - its a long way from Dalkey - lol . But now they have the likes of Macan , cayenne and Panamera they will appeal to middle/ upper classes all over Dublin and country.

In fairness, Audi North is over that way and they have a lot of upper end metal on display. Their main home for the performance stuff is Ballsbridge but I don't believe they have a garage there, its just a showroom. Audi North had a few RS and rare S models the last time I wondered over.

Agreed there are only a few Indie's I would trust to work on my Porsche. Was it Bryan Kane that you used?

It's going back over 10 years. The guy I used was Howard Langridge. He was Australian from what I can remember and had a workshop out Clane direction. I heard he died suddenly about a year after I sold the car. That would have been around 2006.

The Porsche technician in Belgard was a capable guy, but I just found them to be very disorganised. Jobs used to take forever and you had to wait 3-4 weeks for them to take a look at the car.

That's a much better location for them. I always got the feeling that Rochestown Avenue was temporary to get them up and running.

Joe Duffy owns most of the garages around there Mazda,Ford, Volkswagen,Audi and of course BMW among others

Wonder what they will do with ex terry Lilly premises , surprised that joe duffys seem to put alot of their trade ins through auctions . Thought it would make more sense to have their own trade car centre

    A 718 for approx €50k? Not new you can't.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,213 ✭✭✭PrettyBoy

A new Porsche 718 for €50k and prices for other models going up to €150k? They've sold at least 5 GT3RS models in the last year starting at €250k. Pathetic journalism there but the rest is mostly accurate.

Assume the 3rd showroom is for vans ? Hope the porsche operation is separated somewhat from vw operation .

You really have to wonder how they can justify the spending of 20million , it's not like the premises are going to be there for ever like a house !

Really? On Irish plates? Or people circumventing wait lists to export them straight away? I only know the Orange and Purple ones in Rochestown which I believe were bought by the same person.

Wouldn't say you are allowed export ? There's a ni reg one that does be in cork alot

That's not true - I think someone here mentioned it at the time but both cars definitely went to two different buyers. There was a yellow one, silver one and another orange one sold as well as the two you mentioned.
