So Unfortunately My Car was taken for a joy ride on saturday morning (17/06/17) , it was taken approx 5.15am and returned sometime around 6.15-6.30am . It was taken from the Ryevale Lawns estate in leixlip , and we suspect stolen by a drunk lad in the 18-23 age bracket to bring some people home to the Ballymakealy estate in celbridge and possibly another estate in lucan. The gardai are investigating this but I am also putting a plea here incase anyone saw anything.

The car in question is a black 2009 Kildare Reg Range Rover 4x4. If anyone saw the car in question or has any other information, could you contact myself or Leixlip garda station. The car was quite badly damaged on the joyride and I would like to find the culprit.

If you are a business owner with cameras facing any road between leixlip, celbridge and lucan I would appreciate if you could check your tapes.

They stole it and then returned it damaged? Any idea how they managed to steal it...? Without the keys, although not impossible is pretty difficult and needs some specialised equipment.

They stole the keys from my bedroom , my housemate had some people over for drinks and one of those people thought it was acceptable to allow some more people into my house in the early hours of the morning, one of them did it.

I'd be having very strong words with the housemate who had the party - ultimately its on their back.

What damage was done to it?

    Hope you get some satisfaction..

I hope you are leaning heavily on the housemate to give names!

Your best bet (if they took the route) might be HP - lots of cameras on the celbridge road down to barnhall roundabout?

Dont think the eurospar there has cameras out on the road but might be worth checking too.

    Good luck.

Well OP I think you should be appealing to your housemate to tell you who took it, ultimately he is linked to it in some way so I would be hounding him to get answers, if all the people you know were in the house were questioned then someone would know who took it, very strange scenario, hope you catch them.

aaah. Well... time for new housemates for a start. Footage wise... the usual places and also, I know of one house that has a camera pointed on the Celbridge/Maynooth road which might be easier to get footage from than trying to approach various shops/businesses.

Edit: I really think you are going the wrong way about this tho... Your housemate let them in to your room to take the keys, he/she owes you for the damage done regardless of who was driving.

Sorry to say it but could it be your house"mate"(???) themself?
That's quite a detailed map, is it from a tracker? Does it show where the vehicle stops for a period of time?

Ultimately does rest with my housemate , it wasnt somebody he himself brought, rather somebody one of his friends brought, the friends themselves have been helpful and have offered to give statements so hopefully theres some fruit in that.

The chap is 18 and can be a bit trusting but has been helpful , wont be bringing anyone over again. Thanks everyone for your help.

Engine not holding coolant, bottom end knock , brakes are shot, diagnostics saying all sorts about brake fluid boiling and engine overheating , best case 5k damage, worst case 15k

How in the feck did they manage all that? Must have been one hell of a joyride - rad & coolers must have had some impacts..

That is ****, I assumed it was cosmetic damage but based on that... they must have absolutely ragged it for the hour or so. Insurance wise... you are in a tricky spot? Will it be classified as theft?

As there was no forcible entry to the house then I would say no but am not 100% on that.

If he goes to the insurance company with the above info that he has given us them an investigator would be appointed.

I have timed logs from the cars diagnostics and have people who can verify I was asleep at the time so hopefully that would clear up anything . I welcome any insurance investigation as it is in their interest to find the culprit too , Im not sure if its classed as theft but taking a vehicle without permission , criminal damage, driving without insurance, dangerous driving , driving under the influence and theft of my sunglasses from the car it almost certainly is.

Bouncing the thing down the road knocked them out of mountings id say, theres so much in that engine bay its hard to see, also redlining the car consistently would put enough pressure on the cooling system to pop some gaskets / hoses. Theres a load of tree scratches down the sode and the right hand wing mirror took a smack too, tried to drive up a pedestrian pavement in a forest near the house too

If the culprit cannot pay for the damages then it isn't much good to them, they need to investigate certain claims to ensure they are genuine. They know in this case they almost likely will not get their money back if they pay out.

I bet you are not pleased..

Dont know how i would react tbh, sounds like you are looking at it logically - i really hope you get sorted out through the proper channels.

Scummy cúnts deserve a woeful hiding - and the housemate in question deserves same if you find out they are withholding anything.

You are more restrained than I think I would be on this. I think I would have ****edyour housemate out and changed the locks already.

Based on the addresses you gave I suspect that you won't get any money out of the group even if narrowed down.

What is the gardai response like so far? They have a list of 5 suspects, if they were taking g this seriously they would have interviewed them already?

Did you report it to the gardai as stolen? Insurance won't cover it unless you do.

"The gardai are investigating this" in the OP.

Hopefully the insurance will pay out EC. That's a bit crap though.

    Jesus.

I had two housemates who used take my car out at nighttime while I was asleep, fortunately they never damaged it

You are being way more restrained than I was when I found out!!

Not clear if it's been actually reported as a theft though. It might be just that the gardai know about it.
