Hi, iv been driving a for a while now, just havnt gotten around to getting the full licence. Just wondering is there a quicker way to get the 12 lessons in rather than doing them 1 by 1.

Would rather just go for the exam but I dont think this is possible any more?

    Thanks guys

As a lerner you need to complete the 12 lessons regardless.

Have you got a learner permit? If you don't, you will need to get one, then will have to do the full twelve lessons before you can sit the full licence test. You have to have the Learner Permit 6 months before the full test too.

    "I can already drive"
Since you have no licence proving it, you can not already drive and must do the 12 lessons and prove your capability by then passing the driving test

How long have you had the provisional? When did you get your first provisional?

If you received your 1st learner permit before April 2012 (i am open to correction on the exact date), then no, you don't need to take the 12 EDT lessons.

It'd be well expired by now surley.

yes, its a must. You can discuss it with your instructor to see will he sign off on your 12 lessons after a few, unlikly but some do.

It applies if they got there first permit before a certain date, if he/she is on there 6th learner permit (for example) then they still do not need to do the lessons.

My mother got her 1st learner permit in 2000, never did the test but kept renewing the permit without ever doing a test, she finally did and test a passed 3 months ago having never done the 12 lessons.

If you do need EDT lessons, it is possible to get them faster. Some instructors will be willing to do an accelerated course with a few longer blocks of lessons (2-3 hours at a time over a few days/weeks), assuming they can fit it into their schedule and they are satisfied with your current standard of driving (having been driving for a while doesn't necessarily mean you actually know how to drive properly). There are also schools that offer two-day intensive EDT courses for experienced drivers.

My partner has his license 24 years, unfortunately it was a foreign one that you cant convert to an irish one.

He had to do his 12 lessons before he could take his test.

Yes you have to do the 12 lessons but there is nothing saying you have to do them all once a week for 12 weeks. Why don't you explain to an instructor you want to do them over a couple of weeks. He or she, assuming they have time will be delighted to get paid for 12 lessons over 2 weeks. 2 weeks later and you are eligible to take the test(assuming you have the provisional long enough).

Do you have a Learner Permit?.Did you do a Theory Test and pass it in order to get a Learner Permit? You must do 12 lessons and you must hold a Learner Permit for six months before you can apply for a Driving Test.If you have "been driving a for a while now"and haven't got round to doing a test, what's you hurry now?.Most driving lessons are €25-30 per lesson,so you are going to pay up to €360 for them regardless what your timescale is with an Instructor.

They actually have to be 2 weeks apart as the notes from the log have to be sent into ADI or something. I know someone who recently qualified as a driving instructor and they had someone ask about doing them all in a few weeks.

That's most definitely not the case. The RSA recommends one lesson every two weeks for beginning drivers, with practice accompanied by their sponsor in between, but there is no restriction on how quickly the lessons can actually be given. They can all be done in the same weekend if the instructor and the student want. I did my own in 2-3 hour blocks over the course of a month or so. The logs just need to be uploaded to the RSA by the ADI before the student can sit their driving test.
