Interested in hearing from current or past midwifery students in nuig. Looking for general information about the course what kind of assessments are there, how do you find lecturers, what are placements like etc. All information appreciated : )

I am a nursing student in nuig but nurses and mids have a lot of classes together and same placement rotation. Course work can be heavy but by all means manageable if your sensible and start on time not the night before! The science element can be difficult so you really will need to read notes regularly to keep up to speed on it but its assessed through multiple choice qs. Generally we never had more than 2 exams at Christmas or Easter. Usually around 4-5 assignments per year.
The placements always lie a problem. For midwives you are rotated between UHG portiuncula mayo and sligo and you have to go where you are sent. If you have kids etc going to school or what not they listen to you and in a way I think its only fair everyone gets a fair whack of the whip at some point. You can receive up to 50E a week expenses for travel when on placement dependent upon where you are sent. Placements are tough.. you need to be assertive and ignore some of the wagons on the ward. Some lovely some miserable. Lectures are great very helpful cant fault them.
Any questions pm me hope this helped
