Timing chain problem (not a 100% sure)

I have a timing chain problem on Opel Corsa 2004 1.0 petrol engine (at least i think that's what the problem is). Yesterday upon returning from work engine started to create a loud noise on the right side of the engine(driver side), (like something is scraping/scratching inside, it sounds like chain but i am not 100% sure) so my question is how much would replacement cost (on average) or should i be better off buying other used car. Thanks in advance.

    Go see a local mechanic.
Chains usually rattles for ages before they get loud so it could be something else.

Very common problem on that engine. A 13 year old Corsa is not worth very much money wise so get a price to replace the chain versus just driving it on until it eventually goes and you scrap the car. It could drive on for 2 months or 2 years but decide if you want to invest money in a new chain now or just drive it into the ground as is.

I was wondering if someone knows the actual price of repair (is it 300/400/500e or 1000e) that's what i was trying to find out.

That will give you an idea of the parts prices but with a job like that the bulk of the cost will be labour possibly another €2-300 on top of that.

Very cheap kit here which I've used myself.

    http://www.ebay.ie/itm/VAUXHALL-CORSA-C-1-0-12V-1-2-1-4-16V-00-TIMING-CHAIN-KIT/152582798292?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

If you know a local mechanic maybe ask him(or her!) what he'd charge to change it if you got the chain kit.

Or if you're in the Limerick area i'd do it for a small amount.

Cost me €600 on a 04 Micra 1.0L for full timing chain replacement. It's an engine out job on smaller cars for sure.

I'm sure you could take the engine out. I've done a chain twice in the last month on a 1.0 corsa. Just removed the engine mount. It takes a few hours for sure.

Unfortunately chain snapped on the way to mechanic (to make things worse maybe 400-500m from his shop -.-), so now if i am lucky (which i'm clearly not) it's only going to be chain replacement but as he said "valves probably got hit by piston/s" bending/breaking them...
