Wasps nest?

    I was looking up st the swallows in the shed today, wondering where will they decide to build as they were scoping the place out...

    Anyways - I spotted this... not sure how long it's there...

    It's small enough, maybe a small bit bigger than a sliotar...

    The hole into it is bigger than I'd expect for a wasp, maybe a half inch circle... but maybe that's normal for a wasps nest?

    But it's some kinda insect anyways...

    So, is it wasps or what is it?

    Looks like a wasps nest alright. Pulled this one out of an empty beehive a few weeks back

    How come some nest in walls, underground or maybe in a heap of topsoil. Others then hang little nests off roof's etc..
