    Dick Warner passed away today.

I remember fondly his Waterways series. In the house I was living in at the time we would all gather before the programme began, roll and smoke a few joints and allow ourselves be lost into his wonderfully beautiful filming and his enthralling commentary.

Thanks for the memories Dick. Rest in peace.

    Ah I remember those programmes.

    RIP Dick Warner

Would have been a good name for one of the X-men with special knob-detecting  powers

Loved that series. It inspired me to walk the canal from Dublin to the River Shannon and back. Some great nights camping along it outside Moran's pub in the Hill of Down, and Fureys pub in Moyvalley and a great trad seisiún one random night on the way home in an unknown pub in Kilcock.

On television, he always seemed to be such a lovely man, with a calm wisdom. RIP.

OTT but if anyone can remember, I used to love a show about english country houses probably shown around the mid/late 80's. It had a great theme tune along the lines of "Brideshead Revisited" as far as I can remember. Same host every week.

I have no idea why but I loved that show if anyone has any ideas what it was callled.

Oh no. That is very sad news.

I remember watching Dick Warner on Waterways & the Irish railway series Ironing the Land in the 90's. They were two great programmes that I enjoyed when I was a very young kid. I still have a copy of the book for Ironing the Land at home still to this day.

I have read through some of it. It is a great interesting read about the subject of Irish railways from times gone by.

Dick Warner had a real charming voice to him that I will miss now because he is gone. May he RIP.

Just seeing he passed away now. My dad loved his work on the Waterways programme. I remember I worked in a petrol station in my hometown and he came in. I was starstruck by him after seeing him on TV myself. I asked him for his autograph for my dad and he happily obliged. Since my own dad's passing the memory is dearer to me. R.I.P. Mr. Warner.

    RIP

    I loved Waterways. It's a great series.

He was the special guest at some Eco awards thing we entered in school and he gave us our award and spoke to us about our project. He was lovely.

Very sad news to wake up to this morning. He did great work highlighting the wonderful network of waterways and sleepy little villages and stops along the routes.

That's sad news, he seemed a very likeable man and a great broadcaster.

    From the RTE article:
It is understood he passed away this morning after taking ill while on a boat trip on the river Shannon near Ballinasloe, Co Galway.

Seems quite a fitting way for him to go.

    Superb TV show Waterways.
Think it got shown well beyond Ireland if I'm not mistaken. Probably worth 5 Irish tourist board annual budgets in terms of impact.

I was at the same Eco thing back in '98 I think.

I used to love the Waterways series when it was being aired.

Slow TV before that concept was even thought of.
A rare gem in the mass of disposable copycat shyte that RTE produced.
