Fire Detectors/Alarms

In view of the recent terrible tragedy in London I became to check up on our battery type fire detectors. Most of the info said to regularly press in the button to see if the alarm worked. However another said this did not mean it would go off if smoke was in the room and suggested to get a gadget that checked on this. This aspect was not mentioned in many other search responses.

Search for "Smoke Sabre". This is what I use.

It's a good point, perhaps most people aren't aware that there are products out there that do just that...

Our's gets test tested regularly when making breakfast with a hangover.

I think its much better to use one of these for testing rather then count on the press button test!

Ive got 5 HKC optical smoke detectors, 4 downstairs and one upstairs on the landing, all linked to a Quantum 70 alarm. Then Ive got stand alone ionisation type smoke alarms in each of the bedrooms.

It should wake the whole street if anything happens !!!:D

Would anyone know using the "smoke sabre" will it work with detectors on a 12 foot high ceiling? or does the sabre need to touch the detector?
