29 people have died so far this year taking selfies, this is obviously worldwide but I am shocked.....

21-year-old woman survived accidentally shooting herself in the head while posing for a selfie with a gun in Moscow.

Mumbai police have identified more than a dozen “no-selfie zones” around the city, because of people taking selfies in front of oncoming trains and the death toll is rising

22-year-old Scot died after he was hit by a car on the A24 Autobahn near Hamburg in Germany, while taking a selfie.

In February, a 25-year-old woman in New Zealand was swept away in a dam surge while posing for a selfie, after apparently ignoring the five-minute warning siren for the dam floodgates.

What is wrong with this generation?? most of these deaths are 17 - 28 year olds??

Posting it online for millions of viewers/followers motivates people to do even more extreme risky stuff, and to outdo other risktakers.

A good number of Russians have died doing all these crazy building climbs or jumps.

Also, because they are somewhat famous from doing this stuff, we are more likely to hear about it when they die.

Young folks have always been stupid (myself included). 40 years ago someone was probably killed cow tipping or something else dumb.

I had no idea until the camera phone arrived just how much narcissism is out there in humanity.

Facebook was revelatory as well. Quite a number of people I thought were solid turned out to be morons, especially their political posts and incontinent posting of inconsequential fluff.

I have never taken a selfie. I don't like being in photos taken by other people, so I'm hardly likely to go for the self-inflicted variety.

I'd hazard a guess you could harness global statistics for any kind of unfortunate/stupid types of death but then that's not really useful as a launchpad for another tedious dissertation about the evils of social media*

"Selfie Fatalities by Age" shows age 21 with 21% of risk. Males 73.5%.
