Treadmill miles or km and how long should 5km take?

First of all I'm not sure if the treadmill I'm using is measured in KM's or miles so not sure if I've ran these distances in KM's or miles.

I'm a 21 year old male whose recently started casually running. For the last week or so I've been running 2km (or miles im not sure) in about 15minutes.

    Today I did 5km's in 39 minutes.

What would the average or good length of time be for running 5km's?

And also does anyone have any idea if these times sound like their km's or miles?

    Thanks a lot

You couldn't google the make of the treadmill and check it?

5 km in 39 mins is 8 min per km.
So you did 2 km in 16 mins.

As a runner. I measure in miles.

Most good runners would be training in 8 min miles or 5 min per km

If you run a 2 mile route outside at the same effort you put in on the treadmill and then compare that to your treadmill session you should be able to work out if your treadmill is miles of KM.

I got a 2nd hand treadmill and wasn't sure if it was mile or km but could tell from the distances it was reading that it was km.

Although saying that I don't trust the distance figure on it at all and prefer to just go for time while on the treadmill and not worry about the distance.

If it was in miles you were running at a good pace - if it was in KM's you were more than likely jogging - which did it feel like?

The next time run .25 on the treadmill as fast as you can and record the time, you'll have a good idea then if it's miles or km, if it's around the 2 mins mark it's definitely miles, if it's closer to 1 min it's km.
Make sure you warm up well first though so as not to pick up an injury.
If you are running 8 min miles having just started you'll easily go under 25 mins for 5k which is a pretty respectable time, with some regular training you'd chip away at that and go closer to 20 mins.

Go out and do a parkrun. That's 5k and should give you some idea of where your at. Or Google the make and model of your treadmill and see if you can find instructions for the settings. Most treadmills can be set to miles or km.
