Is it possible to receive Disability Allowance in respect of yourself if you are already receiving a Carer's Allowance?

Afaik no you won't be able to receive both as you would be seen as unfit to be a carer if you are on disability benefit

Strangely enough you can, it seems a bit odd as if you claim DA you can't work and the whole point of CA is you are doing the job of a carer! It's half rate not full rate.

My wife is on invalidity pension. Post op complications. I work full time 40k per year. Our son has ASD. Can my wife apply for Carers allowance? What are we entitled to and how will it effect my tax credits and standard cut off?

    Thanks

If your son is under 16 then your wife needs to apply for Domicilliary Care Allowance ( not taxable not means tested, €309.50 per month) for him first.
It’s quite hard to get. Read all about it on citizensinformation.ie
She can also apply for Carers allowance ( means tested and taxable) and because she’s already getting a SW payment the max she will get is €104.50 per week
The dept disregard €665 of your joint gross weekly income and if you have more then that you will get a reduced payment.
The tricky bit is proving that he needs full time care and attention.
Supply lots of evidence including a letter from your wife about how much extra care she is giving him.

Thank you. We have applied for DCA 2 weeks ago. Difficult experience. Is it best to wait for that result before we apply for carers? If you get DCA , do you automatically get carers or some part of carers. So much red tape.

You will also get extra tax credits for your son (can be backdated for 4 years) just call the tax office and request for an incapacitated child tax credit application form this normally only takes about 3/4 weeks and you should receive a tax rebate

Thanks. We received this last week. It is the Carers allowance that we need info on.

Fill up the Carers allowance form and send it off so they’ll have it.
Don’t forget that you DONT need to get his GP specialist to fill anything on it as DCA already have that info.
They do need all of your financial details though and evidence of same.
Just attach a note to it reminding them that your DCA application is pending.
