Improving my game...

I'm here because I'm looking to improve my chances of finding employment. I have a CV, cover letter, LinkedIn account. I hand in cvs to different places in town. I look on indeed.ie, monster etc. and apply if I find anything. Is there anything I could be doing to improve my chances? For example, I have a generic CV, so should I tailor it to different places or just keep it the same?

I should probably say I'm a student looking for part time work for the summer and am wondering what the best method is. Is handing in cvs to places only to have in placed "on file" worth the energy and time? Or, is it much better to just apply based on vacancies advertised.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Your best chance of getting part time work is through someone you know. Make sure you, your parents, brothers/sisters etc tell everyone you are looking for work. Do your friends have jobs that might need extra staff? Most good student jobs are never advertised so keep your ears and eyes open for opportunities.
Tailoring your CV is worth doing for full time professional jobs but probably more effort than it's worth for summer jobs.
