Bmw e38 advice

Hi all,
ive been driving e39's for years and love them but always dreamt of an e38... nearly brought one in from scotland last year. Anyway this has come up (see link below) and im looking for advice on whether I should make the switch. I currently drive an msport touring e39 530d (2003) that ive forked out to recondition the trans and put a few bob in elsewhere over the last year and a half. I drive about 13-14k a year (motor way) for work and as I say am thinking of finally making the switch as the e38s are fairly rare these days. Any advice would be welcomed

Would you not go for a bigger engine variant? 740i would be a fine car over a 728i.

for a daily driver, would I not be killed on the fuel costs?

Possibly, but the 740i might not have to work as hard as the 728i meaning fairly comparable costs. You don't drive a red e39 touring around Adare in the mornings by any chance?

If it was me, I think an e38 would be a nicer option and will probably appreciate in value if held on to and minded better than an e65.
