I just got my renewal for pet insurance and it has gone up €60 for the year :( 4yr old dog, no claims. I'm currently with Allianz. Any other recommendations of who to look at for insurance?

How much is your policy in total op?
    What breed of dog?

My policy for my cocker who now 12 has been €350 ish for the last 6 or so years only started claiming in the last 3/4 years.

Have you called and ask them for an explanation?

It may be because your dog is reaching middle age - higher chance of claims etc

I have a credit union account for the animals (2 dogs, 4 cats ranging in age from 3 to 16 years) and other than vaccination and the odd vet visit for a couple of them it's been good, always kept it topped up to a certain amount.
Biggest expense was my 9 year old dog needing cruciate surgery, cost me €625 including series of cartrophen injections he's on at the moment.
But the vet is very reasonable, so I guess it depends on your situation.
When I first looked for insurance one dog was 400, they wouldn't cover 2 cats as they were over 6 years, so I started the account.

OP you're stuck with Allianz - if you change anything you claim could be seen as a pre existing illness and not covered. Bailey's had about 12k in claims so I wouldn't be without it - his cruciate was over 2k - I had to pay 35% as he's 7. His policy went down €100 last year though - it had been around 450, Lucy's is around 250 i think with a couple of claims.

When he had the jaw thing I would have had to pay 2k up front because he was referred and it's either insurance or pay up front in some of the referral clinics.
