Salvaging a Honda IMA pack

Hi all,

Helping out a friend with their 07 Civic Hybrid. IMA has been showing pre-fail on the dash and ODB for a while and finally died. Unfortunately as a car with no alternator this means the 12v dies too and kills the car.

At 10y/180k its not unexpected that it would fail. Its a 20 stick pack so the odds are there are a handful of knackered/failed sticks and some that are still usable. Will break it down ASAP to test them.

New pack from Honda is >?2000 and really isnt a great investment for 10yo car and they dont have a huge amount of spare cash ATM. Replacement sticks from china are $1100 which is better, but not great. So I'm hoping to scavenge from from a wreck. If I can rebuild and balance a pack to get 2yrs more from it that'd be great.

Not being much of a car guy (but happy to play with electronics), where would be good to call looking for any Honda hybrids from that period? Are scrapyards coy to the potential value of IMA packs? Located in South Dublin.

Wouldn't those be different generation models? Are they interchangeable?

Correct. Somehow had 04 in my head as the end of G1.

I'm not sure about these in particular, but in general would be very suspicious of spurious batteries coming from China. Safety is questionable, and claims about their capacity are often fraudulent.

I'd be familiar with purchasing cells from China, mostly LiIon. Wholesaler has a track record and all would be tested anyways.
