Income Tax Return

    Hi all.

So today I received a summons for a tax return I did not send back in 2012 .

Back in 2012 I was out of work and was offered work on a RCT . I had worked like this for a total of 13 weeks . I have all invoices made to the company I contracted to. I would receive a payment every week with a certain amount kept by the company. I assumed that they were paying tax .

Since then I have been working paye.

My problem is I was stuck for work and dived into something I was not really sure of. I got on to the company today and they told me they sent me out a document regarding my tax for me to d a tax return. I cannot find this anywhere and I'm beginning to worry. Should they have a copy of this document? Has anyone else had any similar issues like this in the past?

I realise I was completely wrong but at the time I was young and nieve and didn't know what I was getting into. I had a young family to look after and that was my only concern.

    Thanks.

You need to file the return.
The revenue will then issue an assessment.

You will have to got court but you willl have the return made by then.

There will be court fine. € 750 I think although it could be higher.

    Upon conviction presumably.

Is it an offence to not submit a tax return. There must be a million PAYE employees who don't.

It is of course an offence for a chargeable person not to submit a tax return.
