Im thinking of moving jobs, but the new company is located in the Docklands, which isn't ideal to say the least. I'm commuting from Dub 6W - is there anyone here doing that commute? How long does it realistically take on public transport? And any suggestions for the best route by public transport....or is it possible at all!

Any private bus or anything that I might be missing (fingers crossed!!).

    Thanks.

public transport options (http://www.journeyplanner.transportforireland.ie) seem to be the 9 to westmoreland street, with a walk from there; or the 15a to the maldron docklands with a 5 min walk. 54a seems to be an option too - that's based on a rough stab at the centre of dublin 6w, which may not match where you are.

others will have a better idea how reliable those services are.

Can you not just take the 15a both ways no?

Stops near Facebook, and leaves from Pearse Street. Used to stop by Benson Street but there is lots of construction activity down there at the moment.

Talking an hour door to door.

Put your exact locations (home and work) and relevant dates and times into www.a-b.ie and tweak the settings. Make sure you have selected "take neighbouring stops into account for origin and destination maximum 20 min walk".

On rainy winter mornings, services can suffer through Harold's Cross (9, 16, 49, 54a), although not as badly as Rathmines (15, 15a, 65, 65b). However, bus much quicker than driving. Buses via Christchurch (49, 54a) more quicker than those via Camden Street / George's Street, but less frequent.

Again in winter, after Terenure / Rathgar, it can be difficult getting on buses between 0745 and 0815.

The 15 group of buses are expected to return to St. Stephen's Green in the autumn. Others may remain on George's Street.

If getting on a bus near Terenure, strongly consider getting on after Terenure Cross.

Would be a pretty easy cycle.

Apologies for the delay in replying - I was away on hols.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions - looks like the 15a is my best option alright. Taking an hour door-to-door for such a small distance is painful! I hope the new bus plans for the city will be implanted quickly and that they bear in mind those parts of the city where jobs are migrating to!

Re cycling - ya I agree - without doubt best option. But...I cycle a bit already and to be honest I don't feel safe doing it. Maybe it's just the recent deaths that are sticking in my mind, but also a few near misses. Also - a creche collection means cycling (in the winter for sure) just isn't always possible anyway.

    Thanks again for the comments.

It's a pretty nice and safe cycle from D6W for what it's worth. Through Rathmines and right on the canal to the segregated path, it's quite low stress. Traffic will often be basically stationary as well! It is one of the busiest cycle routes inbound. Keep in mind if you decide to try it now and again!
