I've just gotten sky set up, but my TV is an older model and doesn't take HDMI connections. Is there an adapter I can get, it takes a scart lead. Thanks

The signal carried by a SCART cable is analog while HDMI carries a digital signal so a simple 'adapter' won't cut it, you will need a HDMI to SCART converter. This will involve a power source, usually a DC converter similar to a phone charger so will require a separate power socket near the TV.

You'd be better off buying a new TV, I'd imagine you've gotten your money's worth from the old model. Time to move on.

Thanks for that, I didn't realise it was so detailed. You're probably right

While the first reply is correct, they can be bought on eBAy and are not that expensive

That's the wrong conversion you searched for. What the OP needs is HDMI to SCART i.e. he has a HDMI source and he wants to feed the signal to a SCART TV.

@coylemj. No its right. The input is HDMI and it outputs to scart socket.

The OP will need a normal scart cable as well.

You probably wouldn't be able to read the writing on the sky q menu on a non hd tv anyway.

If it's a flat screen TV then there's a good chance it will have VGA.
Then try a HDMI to VGA adaptor with Audio out.

To be blunt - if you can afford SKY you can afford a new TV.

    check amazon Or https://www.tesco.com/direct/technology-gaming/all-tvs/cat15430024.cat?pageViewType=grid&sortBy=3&currentPageType=Category&catId=4294775946&icid=allTVs_navstamp_slot1
use parcel wizard / parcel motel / addresspal to get it delivered ( not too sure about parcel connect and outsized kit and not unless you know your local shopkeeper)

NB sound from cheap flat screens will be tinny - it's physics - . use an old hifi / external speakers / gettoblaster - beg borrow steal or adverts.ie / donedeal / charity shop for €20-30

I got sorted with a TV on loan from family. Thanks for the help, I wasn't looking to buy a new TV because I was able to avail of the free TV offer from Sky when I signed up. I appreciate you guys checking so many options for me though

The generic answer to this question is that you need to search for something that will convert your source (typically SCART or HDMI) to your target which in most cases is the input port on your TV (SCART, HDMI or component).

So you Google 'source TO target CONVERTER'

In your case you need to search for 'HDMI to component converter'.

Double check in case your TV has a VGA port - Blue / 15 pins

Adaptors are much cheaper and picture quality is better.
