Wisdom teeth haven't come up, I'm early 30s - do they need extraction before braces?

    Hi guys,
I'm in my early 30s and am looking to get braces. I had a consultation and an X ray done and the orthodontist said that my 4 wisdom teeth are all intact and look to be aligned properly. Problem is, they've shown no signs of wanting to come up.

I'm looking to just get them extracted because I'm terrified that they won't come up til the braces are off and then ruin my results and make my teeth crowded. Ortho said that they don't generally remove them unless they're causing problems. Is this normal/routine? I already have 28 teeth and would much rather the peace of mind of having the wisdoms removed and one less thing to worry about. I'm afraid that by the time they come up they'll have already affected and crowded my other teeth.

I was told basically the same thing. No need to extract unless they cause pain. Since then they have partially (and occasionally extremely painfully) come up/down but have not affected the rest of my teeth. I suppose if they do end up causing trouble I'll sort it out but until then I'm happy enough to leave them there. I would say its normal enough.

I'm 28 and just had my braces removed in March. In my xrays before having them fitted the dentist said I had 4 wisdom teeth but they were not showing any signs of coming down and were straight.
Two weeks after having the braces removed one wisdom tooth started to come down. It never caused me any pain and it hasn't touched the other teeth. It has only slightly descended.
I wear my retainer every night and there has been no change in my teeth.
I wouldn't go getting them out before the braces. If they start to descend then cross that bridge when it comes to it.
Wear your retainer regularly and then you will notice if it feels different and revisit the dentist

Take the advice that you're getting.... Completely buried wisdom teeth causing no issues and with no sign of disease generally should be left alone in a 30+ ye old patient.

If your braces are likely to move the erupted molars back into the wisdom teeth or you will be treatment planned for jaw surgery, then removal is needed.... but this is unlikely in your case....

The key point here is to ask if the wisdom teeth are completely buried with absolutely no communication with the mouth.....

    Thanks a mill - I was hoping you'd reply!
At 30+ years are my wisdom teeth ever likely to come up or will they just stay in my gums? If they're just sitting there, in a straight alignment, and will never come up, hopefully they won't affect my braces? My treatment will be to fill gaps in my front 6 teeth so hopefully my other molars will be moving away from the wisdom teeth.

I'm a bit worried they'll end up decaying inside my gums or something (if that happens?) but I guess if they did, it would be sore, right? Do they typically need to be sore for X amount of time before they can be considered for extraction or could I get them out as soon as they start to hurt? I'm a big believer in prevention and am not the type to ignore a small pain until it becomes a huge one, would rather get them whipped out as soon as they cause a problem!

OK cool, what would that indicate and what's the best way to know it's happening?
