I want to attach a cover letter for office admin work but i want to keep it general and brief, its been over 10 years since I've done this and trying to look for ideas but every cover letter example online are long letter style ones, i have a good C.V so any ideas how to keep the cover letter short and sweet and to the point? Many thanks

Is there a set job description for this role? Are there a list of skills and attributes or a run down of what the job entails. If so definitely ensure your cover letter encorporates each of these points in some way. Some people read the job description then just completely ignore the obvious points and don't really encorporate those into the cover letter.

Try to be as humane as possible you don't want to come off as though you are sending them a cover letter you've already sent a million times to other employers. If a name is mentioned ensure you address them as Dear Jane etc. not Dear Sir\Madam.

Try to write maybe 5-6 small paragraphs rather than 2 or 3 indepth paragraphs with a lot of information. Breaking the paragraphs down makes it seem shorter and easier to browse through to pick out the main points. Make sure your sentences are short and concise.

Really highlight why you want the job and what you could offer that other candidates might not be able to offer.

One last thing and I know you haven't asked for this but it's just a thought. I had trouble getting interviews in the past and even getting call backs but for every job I've applied for recently I've gotten a good 60-70% response rate which is just amazing for me. What I did was I looked at my cover letter and thought how could I really make sure it's not going unnoticed without coming off as unprofessional. What I did was I attached a simple header and footer and completely changed the layout and text. You'd be surprised how much these things can matter. Definitely look at your cover letter and think what could I add to this that isn't ott but will get me noticed.

    Hope I was helpful.

    Good luck!
