Cut the chassis number from your old one and weld into new one. Now you've ""repaired"" your old one, rather extensively.

    Galvanise and away you go.

What's the point in doing this? It'd be different if they had a classic and were getting a new chassis but for a 2001 to 2007 it makes no difference.

Did you read the first post?

The point is to replace a rotten chassis with a "new" one.

Any alteration of chassis numbers/vehicle identification numbers would be 'ringing'. (In this case you'd be 'ringing' a write-off to be a non write-off.)

From a legal point of view, the chassis is the vehicle so the registration number stays with the chassis. So you'd be 'fixing' the 07 chassis with your 01 parts.

Before going ahead with this, I'd advise you check up on the 07 write-off category. If it was a full write-off, it won't be legal to drive. I'm guessing it's not too bad if the chassis is OK and was just 'beyond economical repair', but it still may have insurance and re-sale value implications.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

this is exactly what i wanted to know thank you. its the rear of my chassis that the problem is so if i 'cut and shut' the old one onto it could it still pass.

Yep, that's one way of doing it.

At what stage does the concept of "Trigger's Broom" apply?

If a certain sized portion of the 07 chassis is used to repair the 01 chassis, that should be fine. I don't know how much of the old chassis is required to be intact for this to be a legal avenue of repair without any registration issues, I would presume someone that knows for sure will pipe up..

If you start a little factory in Ireland making those chassis are you exempt from VRT?

No. VRT is not an import tax . It is applied to all new vehicles. An import tax would contravene EU law.
