So watched this tonight. Its still a classic but it is also now 33 years old. Some of the graphics in it is agent. There is games out there now with better graphics. I am really surprised it has never been re made.
Has there even been any attempt to re make it?
How about we start a petition to get it re made for its 35th anniversary say maybe November 2019.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Why? I mean it's a long time since I saw it and even then the FX had aged quite a bit, but it's not like the world isn't filled with cautionary tales about pointless remakes, nor does the original film feel like it needs to be remade.

Because everything must be remade. New ideas cost too much money....

    I'd prefer a new story.

Though in fairness the storyline in the The Last Starfighter would probably resonate with a lot of kids, considering gaming is more mainstream than ever.

Because I would be great to see the ship in it actually look like a real ship and not something out of a game from the 80s. They don,t even have to change the story. Even if it was remastered just like Star Trek The Original series was and the re released that could work.

I do think if they decided to re make it do it would be great to get some new young actors in and just update the story a bit for modern times. They could still have it as someone who is a great pilot on his or her computer but instead of them setting the scores in an arcade maybe its from there PlayStation or Xbox at home playing a game online competing against lots of other online players.

this is one of my favorite films and its got one of the best scores out there. classic "king arthur" story with the sword replaced with a video game. real pity the writer didnt do much more as i loved his other movie too (my science project)

it bugs the HELL out of me how hard it was to get a copy of it. i think i finally got one from germany on DVD :d

but i have to say its one of the few that i wouldnt mind a redux of as while the script is still fresh as ever- theres some SERIOUS heart in this film- the effects never delivered what they were supposed to.

there was even a "behind the scenes" thing IIRC where the cray super computer they were using for the effects just couldnt churn out the visuals on time so they had to cut corners. Deathblossom took alot of it i think.

i still loved it but its undeniable that the budget and schedule hurt the final product.

i mean Christ with todays computing power they could probably do an astounding job for deadpool money. 50 mil or so.

dunno who they could cast for it today though.

Bought New Retro Arcade Neon for my Oculus Rift VR Headset. Played some classic 80's arcade games, then went into the Home Theater in the arcade. Saw you could play video files from your PC. Asked myself what 80's film would I like to watch in the Home Theater. The Last Starfighter came to mind. Found it and had it downloaded in 5 minutes. Sat down in an 80's arcade projection room and watched this 80's classic.
