Hi everyone, bigly year for TV, we're in a new golden age and there is lots of great stuff on the box.

Time to vote for your favourites. The first 11 categories are now accepting nominations. I'll leave these open until Tuesday I think. There are two more groups of categories to go after that.

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=485

    May the best shows win!

Hot Female, but no Hot Male?

3 batches of categories, Bot42. Group 2 next week.

Don't worry, you'll get to nominate your hot males soon. :)

I take nominating for this far too seriously... I've spent the best part of 3 hours shortlisting and finalising my nominations for this first batch of noms and even then I feel like I've done certain shows and characters a disservice because they didn't make my final 5... I had to make a couple of tough calls, and I can only see the next 2 batches of categories getting harder.

Like last year, I'm going to abstain from nominating in the Most Overrated Show category - my view is if people are really into something or like something fair play to them, no reason for me to s*** all over the shows they like just because I don't get the appeal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

The nominees are very thin so far - I'm going to leave the first batch open for another few days...

Spent equally as long with these nominations. I don't know if this reflects the rising quality of television or if my OCD just kicks in to overdrive when I'm required to make these types of nominations...

Unless a show actually has an episode where someone jumps over a Shark (preferably on a motorcycle à la Happy Days), I think Biggest Shark Jumper is another category I'm going to abstain from nominating in.

What I like best about these awards is that they expose me to shows that I was not aware of. I see a lot of people nominating the show 'Line Of Duty'. I had never even heard of it before last week but now I have downloaded all 4 seasons and have started watching them (great so far).

Every year I end up downloading at least two shows I previously had no interest in. The people of this forum have excellent taste.

    OK, everything is counted up.

Some categories were very thin on nominations, so I've reopened 4 categories to try and collect some more.

If you visit the forum, it's the 4 unlocked threads at the top.

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=485

The survey will go up tomorrow morning.

If we have already nominated in a category can we add another 5 nominations? Or are you looking for people who have not previously nominated in that category.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

New people only please. Sorry! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

OK the survey is ready to accept votes.
Survey closes next Friday at midnight. Good luck - May the best shows win!

Might I suggest pinning this near to the top and a similar post on the TV Awards forum itself? This risks getting lost otherwise!

No worries, I'll do it later from my laptop.

Last day to vote. We're still a good bit under the number of responses last year and there are quite a few tied categories. Get voting! :)

Thandie Newton as Maeve Millay just beat out Thandie Newton as Roz Huntley by my count!

A lot of love for 'Line of Duty' and 'Westworld' here - thankfully they're good shows!
Glad to see 'Legends of Tomorrow' win in its category there and that stupid Flash switch win in its one..

Thanks for all your hard work on the awards Mr E.

    No worries.

Great to see Line of Duty doing so well. It really was a TV highlight from the last year.

One of the advantages of Game of Thrones being delayed meant that it couldn't dominate the awards. Other worthy shows now got a chance.

Why did LoD only seem to get popular this year? There was barely any task of it in previous (much better) seasons.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

I think it crossed the divide from "best show that nobody has been watching" to "best show I've just found out about (wait, there 3 other seasons??)" :)

The move from BBC2 to BBC1 probably helped too.

Yeah, the channel move was a success and the show got a lot more hype across UK media in general this year.

Also, the last series worked well as a standalone series for newbies. There were only limited plot references to the previous years (Probably written deliberately that way so as to accommodate the innocent BBC1 newcomers).

Anyone jumping in at Series 3 would have been doing well to keep up with the plot, it was really an extension of the earlier seasons.

Thandie Newton as Roz was a great villain

It turning up on Netflix might have helped.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

I thought she was by far the weakest myself. Utterly unlikable with none of the nuance of Keeley Hawes or Lennie James.
