When you arrive at a hotel your staying at but it's not reserved with your credit card or under your name, will they let you pay the deposit using your credit card or does the person who booked it have to be there with their card and ID? Sometimes on booking.com there's the option of adding the guest name. Would they take a deposit off you if you down as a guest but not the person who booked?

Normally they do. I have booked hotels for my family on numerous times and never given them my card. To be sure and to put your mind at ease , drop them an email. Most hotels are great to reply

I use booking.com a lot to book hotels for my parents, I usually use my card to guarantee it and then they pay when they get to the hotel.. never any issues.

Most hotels are happy to swipe any credit card if a guest other than the person who booked the room arrives first. All they do is reserve some of your credit limit in case you do a runner so you'll never see it on your bill. Assuming the person who booked the room then pays the bill when checking out, the ring-fenced money on your credit card will be released.

But if the person who booked the room gave their credit card details, some hotels will allow another guest to check-in first and give them a room key. It's usually down to who's on reception.
