    Just a quick one folks..
If a vehicle has been clocked,is there any way of finding out what the genuine mileage id on it,,,as in if it was plugged into the main dealer computer would it tell what's showing now or what's actually on it..
Or any other possible way to find the genuine mileage..Thanks.
    Genuine question..

Depends on the car and year, but yeah, some models do store the mileage on the ecu which can be checked with the proper tools.

Main dealer computer probably most likely..
If I rang MD would they be able to tell me if it could be done or not, before paying to plug it in and then saying no can't read it..I wonder

Of course they should be able to tell you if they can do it or not.

Indeed in some cars ECU stores mileage. So if someone clocked the odometer in your car, ECU might actually have a real mileage.

However you have to remember that ECU mileage could be amended as well.
Or ECU could have been changed all together.

So your result from reading ECU mileage will not give you 100% guarantee anyway.

IMO there's no way of finding out for certain about car's mileage.

Best way to to anticipate based on condition.

    Service history is key.

    Hi
When I bought my car the mileage read in KM's, then it was changed to Miles but read the same number instead of calculating properly to reflect the reading, when changed back to KM's though it read the mileage number and calculated the higher KM reading.. anyone know if if this is due to clocking before I boutht it? Basically now my reading is huge in KM's when it shouldn't be..
My clock now says in miles 59524, when this should be the reading in KM.

Anyone know if this can be recitfied to read the original KM's when I bought it?

Can you spell that out a bit more?

It sounds more like the car was advertised with the wrong mileage or you misunderstood what the actual mileage was when you bought it.

    sorry, didn't explain very well

so it read 57500km when bought

I chaged settings to miles to see what that was in miles but it didn't calculate it just kept that figure in miles but when i changed back to KM's in settings it did calculate so the KM's are huge now..

    Hope that makes more sense?

What does the service history say?

    I’m assuming it’s a uk import?

I think the NCT read the mileage as KM's not miles?

I imported a car and the NCT incorrectly input the miles figure as kms for the first NCT are you sure something similar didn't happen? What does the VRT receipt say?

it's not a UK import no

So does the car have a service history?

The speedometer on the Qashqai I assume is your traditional analogue dual with just km numbers on it, and the odometer is a regular type too and there’s no big digital readout of speed in the middle of the cluster or anything?

Did the car used to measure fuel consumption in l/100km or mpg before you went at it?

Nightmare, its down to NCT and service history if it has it. If you bought it recently from a dealer they may reset it to the correct mileage for you

I think the garage told a porkie.. this car was advertised as mileage in KM's, it was one of the things the guy told me when I was in buying it, my sister was there, she heard him.
The display also read that figure in KM's..
I don't know how they did it but it's clearly not correct.

it was in KM before i changed it?
Sorry if I am not making sense

Maybe it was clocked and the cluster validated the milage when switched from km to miles against the value stored in the ECU and reset it to the correct value?
