    Hi people,

I'm having issues with my company email. I can't send emails outside of the office. I'm using thunderbird and the email is hosted by Vodafone. i get an error that says,

An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded:
5.7.1 <>: Recipient address rejected: Non local address.
Please check the message recipient "" and try again.

I've tried changing settings but it makes no difference.

Any ideas where i'm going wrong?

Sorry it's Eir that hosts it.

What has your company IT said?

Hi, that's the problem. We don't have an IT guy.

My guess is that you (Eir) are on a block list.
Put you domain into mxtoolbox.com to check.

Sorry, there's a tree of things to clarify because of all the spam blocking measures that might be in place...
What works and what does not?

    e.g.
    Outgoing Mail
Emails can only be sent via mail1.eircom.net if your PC/device is attached to an eir network. If you are using another provider to connect your device to the internet you will need to use their outgoing mail servers.

Error 5.7.1 usually means not permitted to relay using this smtp server.

" I can't send emails outside of the office."
I.e. when physically sitting in the office you can send mail, when at home you can't using the same laptop... (due to authentication or SMTP settings, or your home broadband provider putting restrictions on outgoing SMTP on port 25 maybe)

    OR

your sent mail is only successfully delivered to email addresses within your organisation, with the same @mybusinessname.ie or whatever?

Because of that block, Eir's SMTP servers are a poor choice for a business. Usually setting up with a service that accepts mail delivery on port 587 regardless of laptop or mobile's current internet ISP / country is sensible. Google Apps, Office 365 and plenty more.
