I have a hotpoint aquarius wd420 that is knackered. I don't want to spend loads on a brand new washing machine so I went online and found a 2nd hand one, a hotpoint wd440. As they are the same brand is it as straight forward as swapping everything over or would newer machine need to be plumbed in? We are moving out in a few months so I'm not looking to go to any great expense! Just need something to keep us going until then...i know nothing about plumbing, probably a very stupid question so apologies in advance lol

It's dead easy, especially if there's a cut-off tap on the water feed, you can do it yourself no bother. Input water supply, waste outlet, and (for a freestanding machine), the mains feed is usually a plain power cord and socket. While you're swapping the water feed, check if there's a filter that might need cleaning.

The big thing to watch out for is that the 'new' machine will need to have the transit bars refitted before being transported to your house, otherwise the drum could (will) get knocked about and damaged. They are two metal rods which will go into holes in the back of the machine to lock the drum in place for transit, you take them out when the machine is installed at your location. Don't run the machine with them still inside or the machine will shake itself to death.
