Focus TDCI turbo failure in Dublin

    Hi

I am hoping someone here can help.

I was driving my 2009 1.6 TDCI focus diesel yesterday and the power suddenly went on the motorway. I eased off for the next 10km. Then a lot of smoke started to come out the exhaust. I mean a lot. I look after my car and keep it serviced. 120miles on the clock.

I got it home, around 3km more driving.

The AA had a look last night and the turbo fault code came up. The mechanic said there was play on the turbo too. Checked the oil and loads was used.

Am I right in saying the turbo is gone?

Also can anyone recommend a person for this job in Dublin. I am assuming this will cost a lot and need the engine/filters to be cleaned also, so it doesn't fail again?

Any ideas on price from someone who had it done before. It is a bit worrying.

Also just to add I got three fuel injectors cleaned and seals replaced a week back. Could this have impacted it.

    Thanks in advance.

    Sammy

Start by ringing a ford dealer for some input and a quote.
You can then use this quote to compare others with.

Try asking local motor factors, they know everything

Tom Cooney in Portlaoise can sort it but that might be a bit far out for you.

I am not sure if I am posting in the correct part of the motors forum but anyway an up date on this...

Garage confirmed a replacement turbo is needed, as suspected.

Apparently I need a new ERG valve and also potentially a new DPF. They mentioned they may be able to clean the DPF. They got a code from the EMU for each.

I understand something had to cause the turbo to fail but does this sound right? The car is really low on oil after the drive when the failure happened as mentioned above.

Havent gotten it fully priced but it sounds like a super expensive job :(

If the oil level was low that could be the cause of turbo fail. There is a few places that refurbish turbos which would be cheaper.

Egr valve might just need cleaning. Unlikely needs replacing unless you had trouble before the turbo went.

What driving do you do? Short spins may cause dpf to block. Forced regeneration should be enough replacement should be last option.
Again a couple of mobile companies do dpf cleans which might work..

Have a peugeot 308 hdi which was showing up anti pollution faulty along with a engine warning light so got a diagnostic and this fault was listed as permanent along with EGR and Air mass meter as intermittent.

Garage are recommending the whole turbo needs to be replaced at a cost of 1500. Does anyone know if the car could survive a drive to Galway from dublin?
