Who's happy at the end of all that?

Chelsea; League champions, but missed out on the double. Must be sickened
Spurs; Second, but must know that the window for winning the league is closing. If the manager doesn't leave for pastures new, the players might.
City; The saviour failed to inspire them. No trophy and a major re-building job ahead. Will Pep last the pace?
Liverpool; Champions League football, but no trophy and a thoroughly uninspiring season, not helped by United getting Champions League football.
Arsenal; No Champions League football, but a trophy that may keep an unwanted manager in a job.
United; Two trophies and Champions League football, but 24 points off the league winners and some really average football this season. Will Jose drive them on?

Are any of these fans truly happy after this season?
If they are, are they deluding themselves or just relieved it's all over?

    Over to you...

City the only side who won't be at all happy with this season IMO.

Today makes things a bit more manageable for Arsenal fans.

Chelsea won the league. Spurs have had a good season all things considered. Liverpool achieved their goal at the end of the day. United won the League Cup, Europa League and as a result qualified for the Champions League.

I'd hardly call it a "thoroughly uninspiring season"! There was a lot of very positive displays from it all and far more to be hopeful about than at the end of previosu campaigns.

United getting Champions League doesn't make the slightest difference to me personally, other than they'll find it easier to land big names.

Sunderland are a bit cool on things as well.

I think Arsenal will be more than a bit miffed to be honest, considering everyone else in the big six made the champions league. Can you have FOMO as a football fan...?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Only our second time finishing in the top 4 in 8 years, hardly uninspiring ffs, it's what we set out to achieve at the start of the season.

I would imagine more was expected of Klopp when he joined than just about scrapping CL football after two years in charge.

Firstly "barely scrapping" it doesn't matter, whether you finish in the top 4 by 1 point or 10 you still achieved the same and secondly Klopp joined Liverpool 8 games into the season in his first year. Liverpool have shown nothing but consistent and significant improvement since Klopp joined 19 months ago.

But yeah we didn't win the title yet so Klopp Out or something.

I'd say the top four along with Utd are fairly happy.

I'd even go as far as saying Arsenal are happy, well they looked happy today.

Supporters get so greedy at times, you've got to learn to take the rough with the smooth.

United fans are very happy with two trophies and CL football, the league was disappointing but last Wednesday was the make or break for the season and winning the Europa League meant United have now won every major trophy in football.
United fans are happy that United are winning trophies regularly again.
The league was poor due to too many draws, but the positive there is United is hard to beat again.

Chelsea won the league easily, but could easily concentrate on it, but ended the season on a downer losing a final.
I think their fans will be very happy all the same despite that given the previous season.

Arsenal fans will be happy to have won the FA cup but will not be happy due to the league and having to play Europa League, amid the ongoing Wenger saga, will he stay or go?

Man City, spent the most and won nothing, can only be disappointed with the season.

Spurs, 2nd again and no trophies. I think repeating the same as the previous year is not progression. They needed to win something, fans probably happy that the 2nd place was achieved easily enough.

Liverpool, got into the CL play off round, their fans will be happy with that but I think disappointed in that I think the fans expected a bit more, given the lack of games. Then disappointed with the squad as it is thread bare if one goes outside the regular players. They should have done better in my opinion, and I think a lot of their fans feel they should have as well.

No need for the condescension, just trying to have a discussion.

I'm not saying Klopp out and I'm not a Utd fan either. I just would have thought that after two seasons Pool fans would have wanted more from Klopp than getting CL on the last day of the season? And it was scrapping it, it came down to a single 45 minutes of football on the last day of the season. It can hardly be called a successful season by Pool fans.

I remember some useless manager...think Wenger was his name...did the double in his first season...not so good now mind you...20 years later but was special at the time....Conte is the only manager who is slightly close to that...Klopp not so much...wanted him at Arsenal but glad we dodged the mediocre bullet...ill take mediocre Wenger over mediocre Klopp

Arsenal won the double in Wengers second season.

Klopp has won 2 league titles ahead of Bayern Munich a team better than any team currently in the EPL and moved Dortmund from 13th in the Bundesliga to 2 time Bundesliga winners and a champions league final appearance within 5 seasons so I think he's a little bit better than mediocre.

Klopp has done an excellent job so far with Liverpool.I think Liverpool as a team aren't actually that great on paper and I'd say without him they'd be well down the table.

Jesus Christ. And people give out about how fickle and short-term football is these days.

This was Klopp's first full season. In net spend terms he hasn't spent a whole lot. Liverpool made the top four in one season out of 6 or 7 before his arrival.

He gets top 4 despite having a low net spend and the fifth biggest wage bill. He gets top 4 despite Spurs punching above their weight when you look at their spend on transfers and wages.

And yet you think he hasn't done that well?

Fergie finished 11th with Man U in his first full season. Busby flirted with relegation is the mid 60s (years after Munich). Shankly even had 7th and 8th placed finishes.

Klopp has done a great job and Liverpool should be very happy. This from someone who can't stand them.

And to the poster above who says Spurs did the same as last year. Not quite, they're a position higher and about 15 points better off.

Yeah I would agree that City are the only ones that can consider it a total disappointment and failure.

They're the only side who truly underachieved this year when all is done and dusted.

Every other team can spin it somewhat as a successful season in one way or another.

I'm happy from a Liverpool perspective anyway. Some exciting attacking football, the major signings becoming key first team players and an excellent points tally in the league given our levels of expectation, the investment in the squad and the relatively early stage of our Klopp project.

They should have done better in my opinion, and I think a lot of their fans feel they should have as well.

While the end results are of course the most important, I think this appraisal is a little results-based perhaps.

For example, if I were a Spurs fan, to see my team that dominant and absolutely annihilating teams is going to colour my perception, as well as the points tally. 2nd in and of itself is an incredible achievement for them, but 2nd with 86 points and their insane GD would just leave me to believe that the manager is doing an amazing job and the team is in great shape.

Contrast that with United fans who will be happy with how things turned out, but will look back at the season with a lot of negative memories, really under-achieving in the bread and butter of the league and with some pretty uninspiring football being played. The Europa League was won without playing a single big team and their record against the big teams in England was very poor, so there's still big question marks there. There will be optimism there based on links to the likes of genuine World Class players like Griezmann, but there must also be some doubt about whether Mourinho is the man to lead them to success based on the majority of last season.

Arsenal fans too will have mixed feelings when looking back at the season. 75 points and an FA Cup is usually a pretty good season for them and about par for them when you look at what expectations you can have based on investment, just they got pipped this time to 4th, and there is a sense of a lack of progression under Wenger

    Imo,

Chelsea fans: Delighted to win the league and looking forward with belief to next year.

Spurs fans: Very happy with finishing second and holding out hope that they won't be selling players and will hang on to their manager.

Manchester City fans: Glad the season is over but hopeful that Pep can sort things out this summer.

Liverpool fans: Delighted to be back in the Champion's league and hopeful that the owners will loosen the purse strings and put them in a position to at least challenge for the league in the near future.

Arsenal fans: Less than satisfied at their league performance and while they will like that they won a trophy it doesn't make up for a lacklustre season.

Manchester United fans: Happy with the season and delighted with Champion's league qualification but I think they will demand much more consistency in the league next season.

As pointed out only City supporters can be completely hacked off with the season - they managed third place with a squad and manager who should have been challenging for the title, same applies to Utd of course but they rescued their season with their final game and a cup they hadn't won. Spurs consolidated their recent rise up the table, Liverpool secured 4th which was the minimum target, adding 16 points to their tally and played the leagues best football for the first 4 months. Obviously Chelsea are delirious (and a bit hung over as judged by yesterday) while Gooners can at least say it wasn't a totally barren season but otherwise it's been poor esp with the lurking suspicion Wenger will stay.

They were consistent. They consistently drew games and were in 6th for pretty much the whole season. Very consistent imo.

    As a Chelsea fan, delighted.

Missing out on the double hurts but compared to last season's trainwreck, where our high point was drawing 2-2 at home to Spurs, it's been a vast improvement.

    Over to you...

Chelsea - win the league - bonus
Liverpool - CL spot gained playing good football - success
Man U - 2 trophies and CL spot in first season - success
Spurs - 2nd in league , young squad and manager playing great football - success
Man City - CL spot confirmed - average season but given Peps first and funds available and stability - City fans should be well content.
    Arsenal win the cup yesterday

    Lighten up

United fan and the season was pretty meh.

I have no love for the League Cup. I'd only be impressed with winning it, if it were only youth team or reserve squad players in it.

The EL is a second tier competition for second tier teams and we should be aiming way higher.
There is no team that we played in the Europa League that we would've feared in a group game in the Champions League. The final itself was surprisingly easy and I'll never look to watch that game again and I've re-watched the defeats to Barca.
Throwing away a chance at top four to concentrate on the EL was depressing and made a real anti-climax of the seasons end.

Expect quality signings to improve the first team and a real challenge for the league next season.
