we need broadband, broadband only would suit, fast enough for me to use my lappy and the oh to watch whatever on the dodgy box without buffering, vodafones basic is appealing, or could we do better with some one else, as oaps we do not want to be spending a big amount monthly on this new service, something we don not fully understand the ins and outs ofwe have tried mobile broadband but it has been a horrible experience, thanks in advance

Depends on what available at your location. Do you have a landline to the house? How far are you from the nearest telephone exchange or street cabinet?

i got an old landline, vodafone says it can take broadband, are they the best option,

Vodafone appear to be the cheapest for standalone broadband, up to 24Mb/18 month contract, €25 for 6 months/€45 thereafter.

Your speed will depend on your distance from the exchange/cabinet your line is connected to.

The quality of your broadband through your phone line is variable. If you live in the middle of the city or town the chance it would be very good. If you're in the middle of a country side or a small village miles from a larger one broadband is likely to be poor or non existent. There are many exchanges based in small villages that have never being equipped with adsl. I know certainly of Hebertstown Co. Limerick and Ballyvaughan Co. Clare. Fortunately nearly all villages including the two I named should have Fibre connections by the end of 2018.

Wouldnt use that one as last time I checked it rates to the max product code, not the prequal.

Do it on the eir site for a real value.

the vodafone line checker gave me up to 2.4m down, the eir one told me that there is no broadband in my road, despite imagne having plackards along it, we went with vodafone, the modem arrived this morning, 4.2 down, tonight will tell the truth about speed when folks are logged on after work/school/collage, i need to dig out the dodgy box and hook it up, which raises another question, a vpn, will this slow it down much, can it be installed in the router, or has it to go into the pc and the dodgy box

as i previously said i got the router on thursday, 2.4 down, it ran my tv box and herself was happy out, friday afternoon it bottomed to 0.67 down, sunday even less, the same today, contacted vodafone tech, i was told that it is probably an outside fault, the outlet where i placed the order claimed that an engineer should have instaled the router and checked everything, i am supposed to have an engineer arrive tomorrow morning, wish me luck
