Switching to Sky from Virgin

I'm switching from Virgin over to Sky. I know I'll need to cables from the dish to the Skybox but will the RG6 from my old Virgin splitter going to the second room be ok for the sky box in the other room? I don't want to rewire for the other room as it's a big hassle.

To be clear each Sky box will need an independent cable going to the dish in order for both boxes to be able to function at the same time, the signal can't be split. If you use a split cable only one box at a time can be turned on as they will conflict with each other. If you have the additional cable going from the dish to merge with the split cable to the room that will be fine.

Ah great, thanks for that. So I'd have three cables, two for first box plus record function and then a third cable to go to the other box with no record function.

Yes well I think the 2nd box will also have record function it's just you won't typcially be able to record one channel and watch another. Not too sure on current installation setups for 2 boxes, they may offer twin cables for both boxes but that may not suit you if you don't want to recable to the other room.

Is Sky Q not the default now? I thought the second box did not use a cable anymore (from the dish)?

Not with Sky Q, 2 cables to the main box and hope for the best with the second..
